I fucking hate this kind of people, I’m sorry, but I do. My country is full of them, this is literally the default here…
Save meeee, I wanna go to the Netherlands or some place 😭

I am cisfem, I wrestled for 6 years ending my junior year after copious amounts of harassment and a sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit against one of my coaches. Fun! We moved around a lot so I experienced a lot of attitudes around it. Not all bad, some of my coaches were super into having me, one was having a baby daughter with his wife and followed my career to the end! I’m sure she knows all about me!

These days there are girl’s programs for that all over the place, but back then my choice was to be on a boy’s team or, if offered (never was) gymnastics was supposed to be a physically equivalent sport if the school had both, so had I gone somewhere big with both gymnastics and wrestling I could have never gone nearly to state in wrestling and been offered tryouts for the olympics.

I didn’t place well enough, because I come from a shitty country that trains people in yokel wrestling and not what they do everywhere else, but that’s not the point. I didn’t want to do gymnastics, I’m not coordinated. I have no interest in something where I can fall and hurt myself, other than climbing trees and short buildings. I’d never have been good enough to try out for the olympics as a gymnast. Most of my wins were mat technique or pins, and I created a cradle nobody could mimic or get out of if they got into it, because they were too lanky to have leverage, because they were adolescent boys, I had flexibility and “stopped growing at 12 and started training” short girl muscle.

Thanks for letting me rave about my long past history :)

They really forced gender based division when I was a kid, elder millennial. I’ve noticed it’s ingrained in most people my age. It took me forever to get my husband to wear pink, as an example.

Kid gender ideology is capitalism trying to get everyone to buy colors of toys/clothes for one kid with a 50% chance of them not wanting to reuse them for the second kid.

A mother at our bus stop rolled out a 1 yr old in a pink pusher car apolegitcally saying they were going to get their aunt to get him a red one this week.

    1. it’s not really an issue pushing a boy around in a ping car

    2. if you can’t deal, there is always spraypaint.

I spent most of my public education life as a straight young boy avoiding team sports in gym class like the fucking plague.

Junior year of high school, I find out I could 1.5x gym credits for taking dance, figured I’d tolerate that in order to get my gym requirement out of the way faster.

Dance class: I’m working harder, significantly more involved and engaged, having more fun, and I get to start the day out hanging out with mostly girls in leotards. There was literally no down side.

Straight guys who avoid dancing are fucking idiots.

I’ve never liked dancing. I’ve just had more fun with masculine stuff like table tennis, badminton, programming, baking, skirts, dresses, makeup, and estrogen.

There’s such a shortage of boys in ballet that they can go to classes at either a heavily reduced rate or completely free. And if you didn’t know, ballet is fucking expensive.

He was also rock star when he was doing that and it was during the 80’s when being a goofy dancer was just the norm TBH.

The cultural cynicism of the 90’s has stained being “cringe” to this day. And the internet and cameras in everyone’s pocket maximize the sense of neurotic insecurity.

This is less an issue of genders and more an issue of just being seen as too earnestly enthusiastic or revealing your physical inferiority publicly.

I don’t like sports much either though. Except [redacted so my friends can’t potentially ID me on Lemmy]. Not a lot of fem’s play that though.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say I hated sports as a penis-haver, but they did always put me to sleep. They were boring and then the adults would scream at the TV for something or another and wake me up from my snooze. Why do I want to watch a bunch of blurs run around a field be narrated by two old guys? or a bunch of cars going in circles narrated by two old guys?

I still don’t get it. Dad took me to a baseball game once and all I can remember is the drunk old lady yelling at the players from right behind me.

For me, it’s the potential for a fight, and the fact that the rules encourage it almost. Hockey checks can be quite something in person too. A check is where someone slams into someone. Bonus points of it’s against the encirclement.

books contain novel (heh) information each time you read another book. there are a nearly limitless supply.

team sports are playing by the same rules every time. there is nothing interesting there imho.

Games never play out the same way though. Some of the things that have happened in the middle of baseball games are crazy unique. Randy Johnson turned a bird into a cloud of feathers with a fastball, and the only time the Oakland A’s played the SF Giants in the World Series (Bay Area series) was when the catastrophic 89 quake hit the Bay Area.

Oh, and the rules change slightly every year!

At least when I yell at my game it’s because I had something to do with the unfortunate situation. Unless you got serious money on the game, why are you yelling? Just an fyi I don’t get mad like when i was a teenager, broke a controller. Now i just say an expletive and calm down and keep playing. The only game that’s upset me recently is Monster Hunter Wilds, but I’m at the end game, so I’m dealing with 1-hit KOs or being knocked down by one attack and hit by an unavoidable follow-up.

I got off topic. I don’t get sports either. Hockey is mildly entertaining but for the most part if I’m going to watch sports it will be in anime form where I get to see the individual struggles.

Penis=child will be forced into football causing much pain and suffering in the chance they’ll be able to get a multi-million contract to get concussions on live tv.

Vagina=child will be starved and forced to wear shoes that are extremely painful and dance for someone else’s visual enjoyment. The dance can also be damaging to the body.

There’s casual ballet, and then there’s professional ballet, and professional ballet is very hardcore.

As an example, the dancers wrap their feet in bandages so when their feet start bleeding, it won’t damage their shoes. When their feet bleed. Not if.

That’s more related to the culture around big places like the bolshoi ballet than professionalism itself. Picturing ballet like that is like picturing any sport for what olympic athletes do to themselves. It’s all hardcore and damaging

This shit is admittedly why I’m unenthusiastic about almost everything. I’m neurotic about my reputation.

Its always OK to not be into something socially. Its more of a minefield to get into something because someone is going to scoff and go “Ew, you like that shit???”

Unless its playing a musical instrument. For some reason that always gets a pass.
