So, the dumbasses at my local Department of Transportation decided that it would be a GREAT idea to close one of two lanes of a major freeway at the beginning of rush hour so some guy could walk around taking pictures. Traffic was stopped for 4 miles and getting deeper. This is the second time this week!
It could have been an accident or incident that resulted in a death. They may have been collecting evidence. There are even some police in my area that uses conventional land surveying equipment and rapid high density laser scanners. Precise measurements of things like skids marks and other evidence of how the vehicles came to rest can be used to estimate initial speeds and confirm or refute the testimony of witnesses.
It could also be something more mundane like an actual land surveyor collecting data to support future design work or verify completed projects.
Neither of these are jobs that can be done at night or at times more convenient for your car.
Sounds like a surveyer, its an essential part of maintaining and expanding infrastructure
But does it have to be done during rush hour?
It might have been the sixth closure of the day that person was involved in.
Just be glad its getting done at all, that person even being there likely took a lot of paperwork and red tape.
There’s nothing to expand. They just finished 10 years of work building the overpass and suicide merge for 65mph traffic. Trying to force any more into that area will turn it into a parking lot
Given the context youve provided and what little i know about the subject, its likely he was there to inspect all the work done and make sure it was done well. Better to close that one lane now then spend another ten years with that lane closed right?
Post-build they want to clean up the as-built docs and ensure they’re accurate.
That’s only one of probably many reasons they would close the lane.
I’m so absolutely sure there’s more to this story
Nah, I ask CDOT to close the highway for me all the time, just to get in the way of people like OP!
They just do it, don’t even ask me why.
There’s no way
Edit: dammit. I’m posting this from the highway after asking CDOT to close it down. They didn’t even ask me why
But it’ll all be worth it once they get around to updating the website in a few months!
