All the male protagonists I can recall wouldn’t have gotten involved in the plot if they had reason and responsibility. A story without some sort of fuck up is a boring story.
Is it? IMO the best stories don’t have unreasonable fuck ups. If a story has to reach for one, it’s usually because the author couldn’t think of a better way to reach a certain point.
