In various places with turkish diaspora, the locals treat it as a generic takeway, so various other things are served that aren’t part of turkish cuisine, like chips, pizza, maybe fried fish.
Turkish people remind me of the Chinese in a way, they know how to adapt their cuisine to meet whatever the locals like. There are a handful of very successful bagel shops run by Turkish people near where I live.
I’ve never seen that, but it was my first guess as well. People here are already doing Doner-boxes with fries, meat and sauce in a takeout box, I’m assuming for people under doctor’s orders to eat a veggie-free high-grease and high-sodium diet.
In Armenia, they put potatoes into shawarma (a more common name for durum/kebab), so it’s a little bit of everything: meat, veggies, potatoes, sauce. But it’s non-essential and not a lot would change if it’s removed.
some places use french fries for volume instead of cabbage/coleslaw. Ngl, they be cookin, potatoes absorb the sauce and the meat juice, making it incredibly more tasty.
In Belgium, fries are added to the Dürüms. Surprisingly good. But in Berlin where Döner Kebab is at home, potatoes in the Dürüm is a special dish that only some places even have on the menu. I wonder where OP is from
And I whish even less had it on their menu. I have had more that one dürüm ruined by such additions. Sometimes without asking and sometimes because I forgot how much I hated it the last time.
What has kekab to do with potatoes? Don’t get near my kebab with those abominations.

I wonder if they are sephardic jews?
EDIT : Ask about simit to make them smile!
You don’t add fries to your kebab!?
I don’t.
Years ago I’ve ate one with fries in Italy. It was okay ish. I mean its extra fat salt and carbs added so it must be.

Listen here you Open Suse using Hans, Berlin is where the kebab is living at the moment… abroad. The home is somewhere in the ottoman empire.
Goddamnit. There is only one awesome european hybrid kebab, and it’s the dutch kapsolon; Gouda Cheese and Döner Kebap, together at last.
you have won the argument. i concede
Akschually, while the döner was invented by a turkish immigrant it was invented in berlin making berlin its home
Not really, döner sandwiches have existed before that, and this is Germans trying to take unjust credit.
EDIT : If Döner is German, how come no ethnic Germans are cooking it? Turning Point Kebab

Okay without asking is a crime, but Gemüse Döner with greasy fried potatoes, zucchini and carrots is delicious and you can’t change my mind :D
