I’d normally use audacity but I figure there’s gotta be something better for this.” Attached to the post is a screenshot of Audacity showing two tracks, one of a binary file being interpreted as audio, zoomed-in at the sample level where individual bits can be edited, and a label track with labels such as “IMGDATA_MAGIC”, “IMGDATA_FILE_NAME (1)”, “Width (1)” and “Height (1)”.
ImHex (https://github.com/WerWolv/ImHex) is the answer but I fear showing OOP that program might lock them into hyperfixation until they starve.
You have to check it out though! There’s so much there, including some possibilities for automating OPs workflow. This sort of stuff is outside my wheelhouse but it’s got automated patern detection, options to run a fancy disassembler that does the job for you. And the UI is so slick! I just leave it up as eye candy sometimes 🤓

ImHex is a very good hex editor. My “joke” if you can call it that, was that the type of person who’d use audacity as a hex editor would be so enamored by the vast array of features in ImHex they’d never stop playing around to it to the point of starving because they’d forget to eat.
