It’s so toxic how Youtube will remove your comment on a video if you mention “Lemmy” or any other suggestion to descentralized alternatives to Technofeudalism. This has also happened to me on Reddit.
It’s frustrating that they treat the fediverse like a trigger word, it drowns the possibility to guide people to new communities.
I get it. I once got kicked out of a Dairy Queen for telling everyone a McFlurry was better than a Blizzard.
they called me crazy 🚬
Can you do the linktree and link to Fediverse?
Posting links usually causes shadowbanning/deletion.
then its not really a fediverse censorship
im not posting any links :p
oh! I see, you’re right then. worrying, but what could be expect from big tech…
I wonder if you made an account like LemmyisBetter if they would delete that account or all the comments
I have the feeling YouTube removes my comments if I edit them shortly after creating them.
Also, it feels like they remove comments quickly if they are reported often. At least I have the feeling that if I post factual but unpopular comments, they are more likely to get removed after a short while.
Anyway, it makes sense they remove more than they used to as they had a big spam problem. Now it’s better but them removing valid comments too quickly as collateral makes sense to me.
You gotta be able to back up a claim like that with screenshots or something else other than hearsay. It’s my impression that no one really GAF about the fediverse, or only pays lip service to it like Meta, which explains why it’s so nice. It’s only us nerds here willing to be our own algorithm. So I have a hard time believing this. Also, who still cares about comments on YT?
- I’ll try to reply here with evidence later.
 - I agree, they probably dont GAF about the Fediverse, but I cant find a reason why i’m getting shadow-deleted? (not shadow banned)
 - We can’t neglect collectives and local communities that would benefit from organizing in decentralized ways. There is value on the effort of making people aware of the fediverse, and pushing for a migration and change. The particular video where I commented talked about how unethical social media is and state surveillance, so I was suggesting people to join the fediverse.

Open your eyes, you’re not creating a better world by just gatekeeping.
If I had to hazard a guess, your comment managed to violate another guideline or contained unsuitable language. I would also not be surprised to learn that if we managed to get ahold of the person who deleted your comment we would find out that you had a history of questionable comments and that’s why the moderative leeway afforded to you may have been cut short. The fediverse will not benefit from a crusade into other platforms in the same way coca cola doesn’t advertize with the slogan “hey, you fucking loser, you would benefit from this cool beverage of ours.”
I’m basing my guess - and I could be wrong of course - on the fact that you think I was gatekeeping rather than describing the status quo.
The comment was the first one I ever made with that account. I never post with unsuitable language. I appreciate your insights of other possible reasons, but it looks like you’re taking your “devils advocate” stance to the grave.
+edit: Maybe they blacklisted the VPN server that i was using?
The fediverse is the best example of what social media should be. A public, decentralized, community-ran place. Giving it visibility in the mainstream in order to make the internet more like it, and reduce corporate grip is the goal (especially when talking to an audience of people who hate using bigtech). Do you not agree?
The comment was the first one I ever made with that account.
With that account. Can I read that as ‘but I have others that have been banned for understandable reasons’? If so, you give me no indication why I shouldn’t take my hunch to the grave.
Whether or not I agree with your take on decentralized social media is irrelevant. I believe that trolling on other platforms, or indeed this one, will not further the cause you have summarized.
uhh pretty sure you’re trolling lol. Its the only google account i have rn, created specifically for when I’d really like to comment on a video. Before degoogling (i deleted my account), i posted like 3 comments tops in 5 years of usage.
You can stop worrying now if you think i have spammed, trolled, or used inappropiate language. You’re acting like Google Support on a degoogle forum.
Yea, I don’t think I want the average YouTube commenter to come here.
Has this happened multiple times? What else did the post contain? I can easily believe reddit not wanting Lemmy mentioned since it’s direct competition. I can’t think of a reason for YT to do the same, tbh.
Yeah, i commented 3 times already, but theres no trace of the comments. All of them contained the word Lemmy. 🤷
Have you posted anything that didn’t contain the word Lemmy?
If you’re commenting too much they’ll just not let your comments go through. It has nothing to do with the content of your post though sometimes it has to do with the length.
you probably got shadowbanned, they considered it spam, or didn’t like something else on the comment, the word itself is too generic, one could easily be talking about motorhead
