I’m not from the US so care little for the constitution. What is in the constitution and what is right are two different things.
0·15 days agoOpenSuse TW. Network seems to be permission based. If I’m connected to the Internet on one user and someone logs in, they cannot connect without my pass. Quite ridiculous.
Oh, and I used to hibernate. Then it stopped working. Now I try to sleep and that sporadically fails requiring restart.

0·17 days agoI wouldn’t use SystemState for a boolean. Better to have Enable() or Disable().
The consideration is about what the consumer of that code knows about it. If it knows less about the inner workings and state, it has lower coupling. You can more easily change 1 without changing all the callers of it. Ideally code, especially in object oriented programming should have high cohesion (each class has one purpose and one reason for change) and low coupling.
Most stuff depends but those concepts can guide you. Learning SOLID principles helps to write better code.
Why don’t you support a Linux distro that runs on prehistoric hardware?
It’s very easy to spend other peoples time than offer your own for something you clearly don’t care enough about.

What? Not sure how you interpreted it that way. The point was I maintain my skills and there will be competition so if they low ball me, they can keep looking.

Plus, I’m good and they won’t be the only company I’m talking to.
They can try. I know number I’m looking for to move jobs. I won’t move for a paycut. If they want me in the office, they need to pay more.
I think they pay mullvad. It has a no logs policy. Better than most. I currently use Mullvad but maybe will try proton when it expires as they’ve had some missteps, but they ain’t funding Nazi parties.

Hopefully it paves the way to Unreal Engine. Unity sucks worse and while Godot is great, UE has advantages in many ways when building games.
Plus competition can only help. Steam taking a 30% cut is very significant and can really impact on Indie developers.
Maybe Linux usage is starting to affect corporate decisions. Good stuff.

I appreciate that point and always good to see what works. I don’t think they’re a bad thing per se. Everything is good in moderation. I think !Linuxmemes@lemmy.world and similar are better positioned for that than this community. I’m sure the privacy communities will always have that content to hook folk in. I guess I see our goal as when folk are hooked in, how can we help them continue that journey. We are a wee bit niche and specialised and many communities may struggle on Lemmy with that.
The rules are against them but this has a lot of up votes so I’ll let it slide.
I won’t lose sleep about one or two but don’t personally don’t want to see them dominate the community. There are enough “haha, meme” communities without turning this into one. This community is to help folk in their journey to de-googling which is a difficult and challenging process. It isn’t anti-google. Hating google is unproductive and solves nothing, but actively moving away from a company with so little respect for privacy is fantastic.
I don’t see how this meme helps folk to transition away, so feels real low value to me.
Yeah, because it’s the loophole around the charade that the gov doesn’t surveil the population. By paying companies, they can easily do what is forbidden by the constituency. Effectively, the constitution is a marketing exercise, barely existing in practice.
However, if you pay someone to murder someone, its a crime, if you pay a company to break a law, you should be held responsible. Weird shit like companies being like humans and having rights is insane and if they are treated as beings, they should be held accountable legally and that includes the CEO and board who drive them.
Education and understanding. It’s naive to think it solves bugs. You might catch and avoid some but static code analysis does that well too.
I hear India and some other Asian countries are very high.
Kdenlive is worth a try for desktop usage. Might be a little overpowered for mobile.

A big premise of that is attributation. If you don’t give appropriate credit, you’re in breach of license. The code AI used didn’t allow it to be distributed without it. They stole from that person.
We’re talking about the worker, not the bourgeoisie. Their labour was exploited to benefit a corporate entity. And you’re consuming stolen proceeds from the bourgeoisie and defending their contributions.
