Most likely I’ll leave it bare wood or rub it with a 50/50 beeswax/mineral oil mix i made
It’s inevitably going to be chewed on, so gotta keep that in mind
I’m going to wrap a piece of sandpaper around the rocket body, then sand the inside face of the fin to match the curve, then just glue them once I’ve got a good match.
It’ll be almost a square inch of contact, so I think it ought to be plenty strong, anything strong enough to break it would break any method of attachment
Now that I’m looking at it, I kinda want to taper the nose and tail a little more, it’s just a touch chunkier than i like p
He’s 2, but I’m going to significantly round the tip, it’s just pointy for ease of initial shaping

That’s actually a great point that I never considered teaching him
(My hobby is starting and not finishing projects, so I’ll do my best, but no promises)
A large dowel would simplify this a bit, but I’ve got what I’ve got
They’ll probably just be itty bitty fins to keep them strong
I’m torn, because I’m planning on sizing the fins and orienting the grain in such a way so he HOPEFULLY won’t be able to break them
But I know that’s very very optimistic. Your take is realistic

I’m definitely dulling everything, this is very early in the process
I feel like cutting from the side would be quite difficult to start cleanly
The thought crossed my mind before I put the taper on the back end lol

Also I will absolutely be rounding any hazardous areas
There are some small cracks across the grain in that piece, but i figure if they were a big problem, it would’ve manifested sometime in the last 50 years, so I’m not terribly concerned



I mean, that was the original idea, then I decided the v-2 shape was more attainable
