No one should expect any legal document to be bulletproof, but the real problem is that the threshold to fix bugs in the constitution is so high that the bugs are rarely fixed.

The Senate should be abolished. The existence of 2 legislative chambers, both of which need to approve each piece of legislation, is an obvious flaw that leads to deadlock and cynicism about “government not working” (rightfully so), and often lets both parties plausibly blame the other. No rational consensus algorithm involves an even number of peers.

Of course, the Senate will never be abolished, because doing so would require 2/3 of the Senate to approve its own abolition, which no rational Senator would vote for. So we’ll just have to wait for the US government lose a war to a foreign adversary or some sort of revolution.

I had a discussion with my boss today about potential ways to write code with AI and have confidence in the results without reviewing every line. You’d also have to automate the reviews in some way, and therefore also a way to confirm that the reviewer AIs are working properly, etc. The conversation discouraged me because it made me feel like I’ll end up being a manager of AIs who write the code and test cases, and I’ll just be an ape who manually tests some of the behavior before approving it for release. This is essentially what managers have been doing with human development and QA engineers in the past, but even so, I have a really hard time letting go and not reviewing every line of code myself.

My take on this one (as a prospective home buyer) is that I don’t want to have to deal with real estate agents at all, particularly if they demand to be paid on commission; When they’re paid on commission, they benefit by being lazy and not attempting to negotiate down the price of the home. I home that real estate agents are automated away in the future.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if we created a dolphin with a human brain, or an octopus with a human brain, etc. Are brains plastic enough to adapt? What if after learning how to use one body, the brain was somehow transferred to / plugged into a different body? Would it be possible to learn 2 different bodies and even swap between them at will?

I wonder where all of those pacifist countries went…
