Some are not listed:
10-1 I’m almost done with my donut.
10-2 Donut completed.
Not sure about the others
That’s ok, neither are the cops.
10-100.
Better than 10-200.
10-40 Found CJ, tell Tenpenny
10-10-220: making a long distance call
No way man, it’s 10-10-321 for me!
Tens tens twenties on yo titties bitch.
Many of these seem dumb because they’d work better as just the actual word. Saying “ten four” is worse than saying “acknowledged”. It adds no additional information, just adds pointless complexity.
Some of them make sense because you might not want people in earshot to understand what you’re saying. But ones like 10-4 make no sense.
Is there some point to it that I’m not seeing?
Poor radio signal. Im not sure if these codes were designed on the same premise as the phonetic alphabet but its the only good reason I can think of. Maybe they just wanted to sound cool.
I did a little websearching and the reasons were brevity and secrecy. This is a reasonable rationale for some of the codes, but not for ones like “acknowledged”.
The 10 in each of these is a filler. When starting radio communication you need to hold the button down for a second before talking if you want them to hear the beginning of your message. Having the 10 in the beginning allows you to say something that can easily be removed from the message, but the core of what you are saying still goes through.
I can’t hear any of these because all nearby police radio is encrypted.
10-12: I’m beating a minority
10-13: I’m beating a fellow cop that wasn’t on the take
10-14: I’m helping ICE harass and kidnap workers
10-18: I’m shooting a minority
10-19: I’m shooting a dog
10-21: I’m beating my wife (off-duty) 10-22: I’m beating my wife (ignoring an emergency)
10-24: I’m lying under oathThis feels more like an America thing.
Besides, police radio is all heavily encrypted, you’d never hear them in the first place.
Not all of it is encrypted, I have a cheap Baofeng I bought before they put the frequency lock on them and I use it to listen in on police, fire, search and rescue, etc. on occasion. Rarely is any of it interesting, but it’s there.
This is AI slop. It’s subtle, but the graphical errors in the series of bars to the left and right of “commonly heard examples” are obvious indicators. The radio is a bit messed up too, and the text has a characteristic AI feel I can’t really explain. (I think it has to do with the sizing and spacing of the letters).
The text is also questionable at best. 10-15 being “Prisoner in custody” makes no sense. At that point, a person is not a prisoner but a suspect unless we’re talking about someone fleeing from prison.
Good point. Also the failed logic to only show 10 of them, easy thing for AI to get confused about and assume there should only be 10 of them, despite anywhere else you go to look up “police 10 codes” you get a significantly larger list.
Such garbage.
