I don’t argue about whether or not people should be vegan. I just know that my quality of life would be vastly diminished as I really don’t enjoy most vegan food. If they can nail lab created meat, I’m all for it.
I think you might be shocked how easy it is to eat tasty vegan food, saying you dont enjoy"most vegan food" implies to me that you’ve only had a really limited selection of what’s available.
Highly recommend trying ethiopian food.
Yes, but also no. Cooking can be difficult. I’ve built the entirety of how I eat around ease. For example a pot of chili for the week with some cornbread isn’t difficult. I do “burrito bowls” with beans, rice, avocado, salsa, lime juice.
I like to air fry tofu and toss it in sauce.
You’re overthinking it, the things I do don’t even really follow recipes. What’s gonna go in a chili? Whatever you want. Beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, mushrooms, peppers, zucchini, just sautee some veggies, toss in your beans, seasoning, and sauce, then simmer for a while until it looks good.
Cooking pasta, for example is also super easy. Sautee some vegetables, toss in a jar of premade sauce and simmer while you cook noodles.
This isn’t baking :3
And you think that’s going to make it easier for people who don’t have much experience with cooking? Throwing random stuff together and making it taste good is a skill, especially if it involves unfamiliar ingredients like tofu.
There’s really easy basics to work with, is more my point. Cooking rice or beans isn’t hard, having an idea of what vegetables you like is something most of us already know to some degree. You can always follow recipes if you don’t want to experiment on your own.
Also, it’s not like every meal has to be home cooked? I buy a frozen pizza or nuggets or something pretty often.
None of this is really any different if someone isn’t eating vegan and doesn’t know how to cook.
Ethiopian veggies are great but yebeg wot is on a different level.
There’s tasty vegan food for sure hut there’s usually a slightly tastier horrifically unethical alternative.
I agree with op, I think vegans are right, I basically support them but ain’t converting. Realizing they were right on food made me a lot less angry that other people don’t feel the same way I do about sweatshop clothes and they, like me are doing their best. Some prioritise animals in tortorous conditions, others prioritise kids in poor ones, others look after drug addled first worlders, everyone’s got their own moral priorities.
Nobody can force you, all I can really hope for is that you try different vegan food and at least give a shit enough to eat less animals.
None of us can be perfect, but we also need to be able to care about multiple causes, and not eating animals is a very easy and tasty one. I care about sweatshop clothes, I care about slave labor in the supply chain for lithium ion batteries, and the genocide in Gaza. I can choose who to vote for and who to shop with and what to eat based on all those goals.
It’s true we’ve only each got like enough moral bandwidth to champion X number of causes it seems. I still view my goal as doing to most with my capacity though, even if I fall short on most.
Thanks for your honestly but most food is vegan just with a piece of meat thrown in, or with cheese added on top. If you like those things, you can just sub out the animal part.
I know arguing over personal taste is a fool’s errand, but your tastes are malleable if you’re ever motivated to challenge yourself.
I mean, depending on where you’re from, you can already get most meat products in a convincing non-lab alternative, at least from what I hear from colleagues. (I don’t have an opinion on this, because I don’t like meat. 🫠)

The issue with that is that cooking is difficult and eating out is expensive.

That only works if you already know how to cook the dish.

I guess I just don’t like tofu or vegetables

I eat a lot of meals that are just grilled chicken, German sausage, or charcuterie plate. They really aren’t the same without meat and dairy.
I used to too. I get it.

That is definitely not the case. Most meat alternatives are still pretty awful
Are you from the US?
I very much doubt it would be unless you’re already artificially limiting what you’re eating
