Wait, what? I’ve done like every quest there is to do in that game and I’ve never come across a single trans character. The game is hella gay, but there aren’t any trans characters to my knowledge.

Everyone is trans unless specifically identified as cis. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I think it’s the usual projection. Like how a bunch of people swear Gwen Stacy from the Spider-Man movies is trans despite zero evidence. Let people have their head canon and move on.

Yeah there aren’t any … actually trans characters that I can think of … ?

But like here are some reasons that do exist that I can think of:

Multiple potential companion characters have either story arcs or at least important bits to their personal back story that involve them at least discussing if not affirming their gender/sexuality.

Arcade is a gay man, who jokes (?) about how the Legion would just crucify him for being gay.

Veronica has a whole bit where all she wants is to wear a real, proper dress for once, to feel prettier than she is accustomed to, normally always being dressed in either essentially military gear or nondescript clothes meant to make her look unremarkable, as a scout/spy.

She expresses genuine glee, literally squeals with joy if you find her a nice dress.

You got FISTO, who … is a robot, that uh, yeah, you can probably guess.

There’s also a whole storyline that revolves around the sexual trauma of an NCR soldier, you are essentially able to be an impromptu therapist if you have the requisite skills.

You as the player can take perks, that allow you to actually seduce some characters in some situations, and you can pick to be straight, gay/lesbian, or even take both, and be bi.

You can actually kill at least one person this way, specifically as a potential plot point… beyond the perks also just giving you general combat buffs against npcs.

Basically… its … possibly the first, if not at least one of the first 3D roleplaying game that has well written characters, that allows the player to define their own in game gender/sexual orientation as a fairly involved part of how you actually play the game, and it shows you a world with other characters that are basically doing the same.

This was pretty uncommon for a game to do or have, back in 2010.

Closest comparison for a popular game might be Mass Effect 1? But … the romance options in that game are much more ‘tacked on’ and less integral to the rest of the game.

Yeah, I can’t remember any either. I just assumed they were characters I never talked to since the game has so damn many good ones.

I’m just salty that you can’t romance Veronica or Christine or even let the two of them know how the other is doing. I just wanted the both of them to be happy (。╯︵╰。)

Now I want to go back and play through Mass Effect again. There are so few games where you can set your friends up with each other. It’s usually “the player shacks up with one and the others remain all alone”.
