This is like the message I saw the other day on my PC when something glitched and said they were sending a report to Microsoft. Motherfucker I’m still waiting on a response from Microsoft from 20 years ago.

Recursion: see Recursion
Not the best error message, but it makes perfect sense to me:
File tried to transfer, this is where it tried to go, and it failed.
Unless I’m missing something?
Yes. A proper error message would suggest some kind of solution.
Usually error messages are a little more in depth about what went wrong and how.
“Operation failed” is not a reason, it’s a restatement of already supplied information
Yeah I read some more comments and that seems to be the issue people are taking. I guess maybe I just don’t expect anything better or even useful from an operating system. Maybe that could be from a lifetime of Windows usage.
Gotta remind myself that, while it’s important to be thankful for what you have, it’s equally as important to strive for better.

Space… madness…
Have you tried not failing? It’s so simple really…
Stop being poor!
I did. Several times.
Worked on the very last try.
It just didn’t think you were serious about it the first few times.
I was, but evidently the operation wasn’t 🤷🏻
That seems to be happening more and more these days.
You must ask an LLM what to do, because it’s waaaaaay smarter than us.
I just published my error logging improvements. So nice try lemmy trying take me feel attacked, you’re late!
You should be thankful you even received a message! /s
Silent operation fails are the worse. Something went wrong and you are not even aware of it.
Fully agree. Also, superfluous errors can be a real time sink too.
Unfortunately this seems to be most error messages these days. Often it doesn’t even pretend to give a reason.
Some software just silently removes or grays out the button for a failed operation without an error message at all!
Or “:( something went wrong” instead of a useful error message.
Nowadays most normies see an actual exception and panic like it’s a horror movie and the computer has gained sentience. Management tells programmers to hide the error message, making it harder for literally everybody

It’s been a trend long before win 11 hit the market.
Okay, but also Ursula K. Le Guin fucking rocks. I didn’t even read Earthsea (that’s the 3rd one in the image) until I was older, and it’s amazing. But so many of her other books were influential on me when I was younger. The Dispossessed is brilliant, and Left Hand of Darkness is well-deserving of its reputation as one of her best. Both won the double-whammy of Nebula and Hugo “Best Novel” awards, making her the only author who’s not an asshole to win that twice, fuck Orson Scott Card. Also she was woke as fuck basically her entire life and was not afraid to say it.
Lmao I just started reading some of Card’s series, notably Wakers and Ender’s Game. And there’s a lot of misogyny and Conservative ideas rattling in his ramblings.
I’ve heard good things about Earthsea so I’ll look into her other works
I loved enders game as a kid. I see it as a sign of growth that I now realize how cringe that was.
I’ll admit that I actually do really like Card’s writing, and I don’t deny that Ender’s Game (and Ender’s Shadow and Speaker for the Dead!) are great books. I read them a lot when I was younger and don’t specifically recall any hidden conservatism, especially because he seemed to have multiple viewpoints in the books. But the man himself is a piece of bigoted trash, so I would only buy used books from him now.
I truly feel bad not liking her books. I’ve tried! Can’t even name a single objection, just have never been drawn in.
Sometimes an author doesn’t click even when she should otherwise, no worries! Good on you for at least trying!
I thought that the book in the series about that “darkness priestess” girl who spent time in those caves of hers was kind of depressing and meh. The Tombs of Atuán, maybe?
searches
“Atuan”.
I did like the other books in the Wizard of Earthsea series, though.
I really like The Tombs of Atuan, but I do think it’s a tone shift from the first book. The religious themes reminded me a lot of Dune in some ways, where even those at the top of religion question it, plus it’s also kind of coming-of-age for Tenar (the priestess girl) and for Paul. Bringing Tenar back in Tehanu (4th book in the series) was brilliant, though, and really gives her character more development. That one might be my favorite of the series.
It has been a long while since reading them so I confess that I don’t recall them clearly, but the Tombs is my favorite of the series because the feeling and atmosphere she evoked while reading it. Something about how she shaped the story of the tombs darkness stuck hard for me. The inky blackness and their maze of mysteries are ingrained in my memories; so much so that Atuan is what springs to mind if a film includes such material. LeGuin’s storytelling was masterful.
Someone didn’t bother to output the inner exception
Double double boil and trouble, let that exception bubble.
I hear smell of witch’s brew
One of the interfaces I use at work requires regular reauthentication (sidenote: I’d like to thank autocorrect for “correcting” that to “resurgence ovulation”). At sign in, it pops up a usage agreement, which is tedious but NBD.
What annoys me is that (in the UI it offers, obviously one could circumvent this) you have two and only two options: “OK” or “Got it.” No "I don’t accept or “log me out.” I’d even prefer just “OK” over that - it feels like it’s trying, poorly, to railroad me.
I’d bet the default dialog box in the toolkit being used has two buttons, and the programmers don’t know how to make a dialog box with one button, so it’s just two “I accept”
A defense of dubious rationality doesn’t make it less annoying, sadly.
You can tell because of the way it is, and that’s pretty neat.
You can tell because of the way it is, and it is this way because of the way it is.
Because of failure
