To be clear, this is a jab at the copious amount of sugar that companies throttle down our throats. It’s a critique of big companies.

A medium sized apple has 20 grams of sugar. It comes with other benefits that soda doesn’t, vitamins and fiber, but it still has a load of sugar in it.

Grams per ounce as a measurement is hurting my brain, but yes, it’s a disturbing amount.

There is way to much sugar in coke

But be the devils advocate. The current anti sugar trend is worse.

Sugar is a natural and useful component to the body. There are times where having sugar available is not only important but can save lives (including some types of diabetes)

I have gone to locations where all provided drinks where zero sugar and bringing your own drinks not allowed. Thats is not an improvement.

You just have to wean yourself off of sugary drinks. You really don’t need them with the amount of sugar you get via your food.

Sorry, but why? The vast majority of the foods that we eat contain plenty of sugar.

Even with a pretty healthy diet you’re still getting enough sugar. High sugar vegetable like carrots, bell peppers peppers, onions, sweet potatoes, and beets more than meet your needs, especially when paired with even the smallest amount of fruit.

Its not a big problem if you are not one of the people with a medical issue that need a reliable and exactly known amount of sugar.

Its a life endangering problem if you are.

Foods are rarely as standardized as drinks. Medical professionals relked on the availability and exactly known amount of sugar in regular code to prescribe it as part of a diet.

This was at some point even adressed on my local news when they changed the coke zero packaging to be more like regular coke. There is an increased change a customer (or waiter) could grab the wrong can and taste wise you wouldn’t know. This goed both directions.

People who can’t have sugar may be served sugar.

People who require sugar may be served sugar free.

I bet the scope of this problem is small but at least some medical professionals and health groups agree that this is not the way to go.

i implore people to not continue associating high sugar to creating diabetes. the ‘research’ that is often cited is just corelation there is no causation link of sugar to diabetes

its yet another way politicians, corporations, healthcare industries have weaponized obesity to dehumanize, deny care, and blame diseases on individual habits rather than the actual evidence of genetics playing a huge sometimes the only role.

coca cola is bad as a company, its bad for doing what it does with its products and causes real harms. but this cheap labeling as sugar = diabetes is just harming the people not coca cola

        Good general read: https://www.healthline.com/health/diabetes/sugar-doesnt-cause-diabetes

General recommendations from CDC and NIH don’t include anything about sugar consumption. Correlations with obesity that one might jump to saying has parts of high sugar consumption is only linked/associated not causally linked as presented: https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/about/about-type-2-diabetes https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/diabetes/overview/symptoms-causes

General glance at a meta analysis here is still a correlation link: https://www.bmj.com/content/351/bmj.h3576

Regarding the weaponized thing, that takes a lot more effort to explain that I don’t got right now. The first article explains some cultural aspects of what I meant but the institutional level is it’s own thing.

Diabetes is not linked to being caused by high sugar intake, or anything else in any substantial manner that I can find. There are correlations with a lot of things, but we don’t know the cause.

We know obesity is weaponized in healthcare to abuse patients, reduce or remove care, and other general bad things, where in many many cases its correlations not causation. Correlations like sugar use being treated as fact creates discrimination and medical shield for corporations to hide behind denying care. The link being used as a cheap shot to call out coca cola hurts both those with diabetes who are faced with this idea that it’s their fault, all the while doing nothing about coca cola or the systemic issues it created to get away with this.

Well, you don’t get throttled ever by the soda company. They have diet and no sugar options. If you complain about artificial sugar, then what are you really angry about here? Capitalism? Just say capitalism. ZERO companies FORCE dumb Americans to consume their product. If there’s anything amerikka has more of than any country on earth, it’s food options.

Coke is sold all over the world.

It’s most consumed in Mexico actually, and has a large hand in that country’s diabetes and obesity epidemics.

Individual choice is commendable ideal, it also allowed tobacco companies to wreak a century of woe for profit.

So, to be clear, you’d like all sugar banned from the USA? Because the muffin at the grocery store has a bunch of sugar in it too, but no one seems to care about that.

I’m fine with banning sugar. I just want to know how you’re going to justify focusing on coke and not…. Basically ALL American food.

Coke makes dozens of soft drinks. And perpetrates a large share of plastic waste, I wouldn’t mind an example being made of them.

I’m not suggesting banning sugar in any way. I’m suggesting that some form of regulation could take place. A tax, a limitation beyond how much you can physically dissolve in the liquid, a warning label. Something.

        Healthcare options

I know this is a joke because America has limited healthcare compared to the rest of the world. All a person has to do is go to another country to find that out.

I thought America had a lot of options honestly, if you also happen to have a lot of money. But I could definitely be mistaken, maybe their options are shit for the wealthy too.
