My first thought was the Paul Walker picture? So what, all Fast and Furious fans are latent criminals?
Those are some of the highest grossing movies of all time, surely you can’t profile criminals based on a film franchise with significant mass appeal. Talk about painting with a large brush.
One of the most interesting statistics I’ve ever heard was that traffic stops go up significantly around theaters that have recently screened a fast and furious movie.
I hope it’s a true statistic because it makes a lot of sense.
racism is not about the language itself. it’s about as she herself said “who is running this car show, so we will keep an eye on it”. it’s panopticon-enabled racial profiling.
I mean, someone behaving suspiciously? To be honest, it sounds much like you think all black people are suspicious more than the lady in the video.
And car shows can get very rowdy - especially shows for more modern cars than classic or vintage cars. The botched car show in Gatlinburg TN a year or two comes to mind as a specific example.
The unapologetically naked racism in that “car show” example.
“Based on who was promoting it.” WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT?

When you’re a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

If everyone is guilty of something, it makes yanking them off the street easier to justify to a news media asleep at the switch.
How was it racist? The language seems pretty banal

Maybe I’m missing something obvious here, but why would you interpret “because of who is running it” as a racist dog whistle?
who would be the first kind of person to be the “suspicious guy running around”, as opposed to a regular guy?
why would they need that distinction in the first place when it’s just a so-called “car show”?

police is notorious for racially profiling and this is what they already do, supercharged. arguing they don’t is naive at best.
i was actually thinking of latin immigrants (ie someone like myself), which they openly use flock to target.
but yeah this probably applies native born black people too.
