Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think it’s possible to separate creator from work.
I think the devs of GrapheneOS and Valetudo are kind of dicks, for example, but I still use their software. That shouldn’t be seen as personal endorsement for any of their views.
There is a level of irony on this topic regarding Lemmy. In that the lead dev is persona non grata in a majority of instances and his instance is defederated by many others.
“Death of the Author” is one of those questions that needs an answer but people wont be consistent in their responses, especially weird online communities like here.
The “work” in question does not exist in a vacuum tho, and will very likely be used to further the worldview of the creator. Anti-woke moderation here, a blogpost about great replacement there etc.
Like I don’t have anything against harry potter, but the money you pay for it go through jk rowling directly to a bunch of right wing nobheads.
and will very likely be used to further the worldview of the creator.
This is absolutely correct. What worries me a bit is that it’s also what those guys bank on.
Being perceived the “less miserable” space I mean (as long as you’re some white dude I guess).
I’m not sure if the… uh… “meme” helps in that regard, because, while the idea is to oppose them, it I think just contributes to their story and frame.
So, ideally, to be effective against (alt-)right, we would want to be the cool, capable people, you want to be around.
(This, I think, is also why omarchy is so style over substance. it’s trying to own the “cool”-ness)
I think it’s possible to separate creator from work.
Not when it comes to consumerism. By consuming their product you are directly supporting that creator. Installing omarchy boosts their numbers which attracts more users. We could all just not do that and not support nazis
Even separating creator from work, would you actually be willing to install an OS that was entirely made by Claude? Because that’s what this is. And also, fuck Nazis.
Separate omarchy from DHH and it’s still omarchy. An arch linux installer and dotfile collection created by claude. It could disappear and nothing of value would be lost.
I think it’s possible to separate creator from work.
It’s a sensible, reasonable thing to do, to which I agree in generally.
With Omarchy and DHH in particular however, I’m not so sure.
Not because of “his opinions” or “him being a dick”, but because just how undercooked his takes have gotten.
That too reflects in Omarchy, which is style (for the lack of a better word) over substance.
And that you can indeed use to deduce that you should probably not trust it with your banking data or whatever.
So I would argue that it is a question of which part you want to separate and for what reason, essentially.

For what it’s worth, the instance I am posting from runs a fork of piefed, because fuck the lemmy devs and fuck rimu.

Yeah, I made this and it isn’t as much a meme as it is a shitty edit. I just really needed a vent, I guess.
How would Hyprland possibly be used to further a right wing agenda? By introducing a wordpad app?
The works sucks as well. It’s just arch with a. Shitty dot file management system on top that is super fragile and insecure.
The work is just an idea and a statement
Not when it comes to consumerism. By consuming their product you are directly supporting that creator. Installing omarchy boosts their numbers which attracts more users. We could all just not do that and not support nazis
Nazis… “kind of dicks”… yeah, totally the same thing.
So why are you calling them nazis?
Even separating creator from work, would you actually be willing to install an OS that was entirely made by Claude? Because that’s what this is. And also, fuck Nazis.
If it works fine I don’t mind. But yes, fuck Nazis.
Being a dick is very different from being a Nazi
Yes it is, so why the fuck are people calling them Nazi?

Nice how the sentence and the general statement work for omarchy and claude.
