I actually don’t hate it. I just don’t know who this is for. The kind of person who would want a hose clamp as a bracelet certainly isn’t the kind of person who’ll get a $700 bracelet.

Actually, I just realized while writing this, this is actually perfect for the kind of person with one of those pristine, enormous pickup trucks. It’s for people with wealth who want to larp as working class.

“Luxury” fashion is just a con to get stupid rich people to fork over their money. People with style will not buy this. It’s so unfashionable that it won’t even be counterfeited.

"Luxury” fashion is just a con to get stupid rich people to fork over their money.

One time I was on the subway and my friend motioned at a lady sitting with a handbag on her lap. Friend asked how much I thought that bag sold for. It was a pretty basic looking bag, maybe real leather, a zipper. I said maybe a few hundred. They were like no, it’s {some brand}, probably five figures.

Anyone who spends five figures on a bag that’s not like a magical bag of holding should immediately be sent to therapy and community service.

      The customer is always right.

If people buy the thing, then it wasn’t stupid to make or sell.

People can be far stupider still.

How long before people are wearing real hose champs.

How long before a “cheap” knock off is produced.

I’m not really a jewelry-wearer, and certainly not an expensive jewelry wearer

That said, I think it’s kind of fun. If I were the kind of person to wear jewelry, I might consider this. I’m a pretty hands-on, DIYer type of guy, I find myself fucking around with hose clamps pretty often, and hell, I might even say I have a bit of affection for them, I’ve solved a lot of problems with them.

That price seems steep to me, but I feel that way about most jewelry. I don’t know what material it’s made out of or how big it is, maybe that’s a fair price for how much silver or whatever is in it, maybe it’s horribly inflated.

While we’re at it, then, let me point out that cynical Chinese knockoffs of the Leatherman Tread bracelet are totally things that exist and nowadays are readily available for suspiciously small amounts of money.

I’ve got one. I had to remove one link from it to keep it from falling off of me all the time, but it is indeed boss. I would not advise getting into a motorcycle wreck while wearing it, though.

It would look cool with a punk style. It’s symbolic. I wouldn’t pay that much for it, but it is a funny design and pisses people off.

Ok, I realize it looks ridiculous, but you can tell this isn’t actually a hose clamp, right? It’s super thick and has a hinge and is made of silver and just LOOKS like a hose clamp. It’s probably one of the least bullshit products Balenciaga has made in years. They’re normally charging $2000 for a nylon windbreaker made of the same shit you’d buy at Target

When I see shit from Balenciaga I’m reminded that climate change actually makes total sense.

Look at this dumb shit. The people selling and buying this live in a world totally removed from the rest of us. I’m having like, a visceral reaction to this - I would look at someone wearing this like I would a venomous spider.
