Omg absolutely, what a workhorse. I ended up slapping on a custom vBIOS, aggressive overclock, and swapped the AIB’s air cooler for a little closed loop 120mm water cooler. I ran it until it died in 2020, and if it was still functional today, I’d still be using it. RIP what a loss. The 6GB of VRAM were starting to get tight and DX12 was starting to age it, though, but it was still totally holding up for what I use a GPU for.

Now I am on a 6900XT with the navi21 XTXH chip in it. I bet I’ll skip at least as many generations with this as I did with the 980Ti. It’s so fast and efficient. In some games, the fans don’t even spin, and it just passively cools with the heatsink.

I play on a CRT in either 1600x1200@85Hz or 1024x768@120Hz capping it at 170fps in 85Hz or 360fps in 120Hz, and it holds those solid and stable in the games that I play. I’m not interested in 4k gaming or anything silly like that (but I’m sure others would say that I’m the silly one lol). The biggest factor that was holding me to the 980Ti was the flawless onboard DAC and native analog output. In order to use the 6900XT, I dropped a bunch of money on a DAC with a VMM2322 for it

It’s a little unclear what you mean, like because more than half a million Russian soldiers have already been killed so far and yet the war keeps going, that the people must be responsible for supporting?

Russia is conscripting, so most are not there by choice but required by law. If you draft dodge and get caught, you go to prison, and still just end up on the frontline anyway, since they are emptying their prisons to use as soldiers, too. And these people will be shot and killed by their own side if they attempt a retreat, while fed propaganda and misinformation about their treatment if they surrender. There has been significant human trafficking to support their war effort. They’ve also depended heavily on mercenary forces outside of their military in order to have skilled soldiers, and are now even receiving soldiers from North Korea in order to continue fighting.

Besides that, there are so many factors that go into why a person would decide to join the military and in reality, they are usually economic ones or from extensive propaganda.

I wish for an ideal world where politics could stay out of Linux, but this is extremely tricky and cannot be treated black and white. Labeling things as “political” and then crying to keep “politics” out of things is often used as a weapon for exclusion, for example by sexuality or race, and I think exclusion should be anathema for Linux and open source projects.

I would go the VM route first, and if you run into any troubles then you still always have the option of installing a 2nd hard drive for bare-metal windows dual boot later. If you do need to dual boot, I don’t recommend partitioning one hard drive. Windows isn’t good at sharing.

If you’re new to linux and unsure about what distribution to install, there are plenty of better sources online with distro recommendations. I tend to use Debian on server/headless and Fedora for desktop/laptop. But I will say, picking an option with the KDE/Plasma desktop environment will probably be the easiest transition. It should feel and look pretty familiar to what you are used to with Windows and many distros offer an installation for KDE/Plasma.

I was using the pinebook pro ARM laptop with manjaro linux as a semi-daily driver for a while. It is fine for simple tasks and web browsing, but you cannot expect the hardware to be quick or snappy. I had consistent issues with wifi, and eventually I got fed up with the weak performance and switched back to an x86-64 architecture laptop. In terms of software and support, besides the wifi issues, it was fine
