(ignore the trashed nail polish teehee :3)
our goal is to get linux running on this thing. early android tablets were quite flexible and used a lot of standard off-the-shelf components. this tablet in particular (plus many others) uses the nvidia tegra 2 SoC which was reasonably popular. its a little 1GHz dual core armv7 thingy with a gigabyte of memory to its name.
the tablet itself with 16GB of internal storage and no sd card slot at all! thankfully we do have a little usb OTG adapter for the weird little 30 pin port.
we are probably gonna use arch linux ARM since they have a cool little armv7 port, ofc subbing in our own kernel.
the photos show us rooting the device and installing a custom recovery so we can manage stuff like partitions with adb shell instead of fighting with odin and stuff.
but that’s all for now. might write more about this in the future! goodness we need a blog or something lol
Cute pawmi
Aaahhh, CWM… Better, more exciting times… Now we’ve got locked bootloaders and system integrity mechanisms everywhere 🙄
oh and last night we were having trouble sleeping so like at three quarters to midnight we grabbed some random ipod on our shelf with a broken screen and decided we were going to fix it, grabbing a couple tools and bringing it to this state within 40 or so minutes (a bit of cleaning was involved). why are we like this~

I’m pretty sure you can replace the HDD with a compact flash card.
Plenty of guides! Getting the iPod is the hardest part, since the resurgence of offline music has driven up demand.
Shoot, I’ve got an old ZuneHD that I’d love to expand too lol
I believe they use flash memory already and may be harder to modify.
goodness we need a blog or something lol
lemmy is your blog now
