Oh no, it’s absolutely cynical and self-interested. But Nazis do have a surprisingly significant hold in Ukraine, which still absolutely baffles me when you think about what Nazi ideology said about Slavs.
Regardless, they’ve actually got a far better Casus Belli than any of the NATO wars of the last 30 years, even if the bar is literally in hell.
An occupying nazi regime literally doing more to genocide Russians in the Donbas than “the mistreatment of the uighers” (lol at the downgrade from genocide on the wikipedia page) because unlike the mistreatment of the uighers they were doing things like prohibiting Russian from being spoken. You know, actual genocidal behavior
According to people on the ground the Banderite Nazis have been attacking civilian locations in the Donbass multiple times a day with artillery and drones since the euromaidan coup
Yeah they were doing that too but I mention the language stuff because it’s literally genocidal and IMO having an official state policy of “derussification” is more damning than mortar fire they can blame on “separatists” or “extremists”
If the extremists are in the legislature saying “you can’t speak Russian anymore, and if you live in these areas we’re taking away your pension” it’s kinda harder for Ukraine to deflect
I see the logic of that. I think I speak of the civilian bombardments because not everyone knows enough about genocide to see the immediate connection between sterile state actions and genocidal violence
