How is this related to Skywind?
Skywind: Playing the plot of Morrowind in the Skyrim engine. Game mechanics, spells, skills, models, textures, and bugs are all going to be similar to what you have in Skyrim, give or take some modding.
OpenMW: Playing Morrowind in an open source, crossplatform game engine. You are playing the exact same game as TES III (quests, spells, models, textures, etc) but the code behind it is less buggy, more moddable, and constantly being improved.
They are both in some way related to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
OpenMW is an open source game engine that can be used to play Morrowind. (There is an unfinished “Example Suite”, a CC0 licensed game data that can be used instead of Morrowind game data, so technically OpenMW does not play just Morrowind. Feel free to come help finish the Example Suite)
Skywind is remake / reimagining of Morrowind game in a modified Skyrim engine.
I love openmw
Exciting release for Tamriel Rebuilt players, we might finally get to enjoy some of the custom spells that mod adds!
if only i still had a cd drive. i think i still have the game cd somewhere.
when is a game this old finally public domain so they can get rid of the original game installation requirement?
70 years after the author’s death IIRC
Ah and mega corporations never die, so never 😂
Don’t say that, the Hudson Bay Company died a few years ago. It’s worth a read in Wikipedia; they were so powerful hundreds of years ago that they were treated like a country.
IBM is defunct for consumer tech.
Radio Shack is dead.
Many other examples haha.
Open Modern Warfare?
To be pedantic, the MW in OpenMW doesn’t stand for anything. It’s supposed to make players think of “Open MorroWind”, but only Bethesda has the right to use the name Morrowind.
Swing and a miss.
Nah, it’s Open Mech Warrior.
A free re-implementation of the engine that powered Morrowind.
Well that’s just neat.
