hello everypony welcome to my biannual 196 post
Suddenly, many design decisions of Go (the programming language) became much clearer.
In case you’re as confused as I am: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/snarf
Thanks! It seems to be antiquated tech jargon as well. Plan 9 was an operating system directed in part by Rob Pike (the author of this email) in which the Copy action was called “Snarf”.
It’s actually not a copy action, it’s snarf.
there’s still a community of people who use plan 9 and a handful of ports and implementations of plan 9 systems!
you can snarf to this day if u want
So like, is it a Unix?
it was created by the bell labs ppl and supposed to be like the successor to unix but market forces and the prevalence of unix/linux caused it to never reach mainstream
why?
because they want to
r u snarfin me rn
you know i made this meme without even considering that vim calls it “yank” so like who am i to judge
IIRC vim calls it “yank” to match the y keybind
not “yopy” 💔🥀
