That would be the least frightful / most naive fawn I’ve ever seen.

I’ve managed to be far enough into a forest to see adolescents rutting from about 100 feet away, see a momma and her kids wander by at about the same distance, had to stay absolutely motionless for them to not all bolt.

… I’ve never seen a fawn that… either bold or stupid.

Not saying its impossible, just saying it’s amazing.

Maybe they’re just broadly more normalized to people and their pets, wherever this… seemingly out in the boonies home is?

I think the closest I’ve ever managed to get to any deer was about 25 feet away, before they bolted.

Not as a hunter, just… hiking, off the trail, basically.

City deer can be stupidly fearless. I’ve had deer eat out of my bird feeders while my dogs barked at them through the open window six feet away. They don’t even run when approached, just lazily trot away.

Mine run when they see us but they’re getting more comfortable, we just moved here in October. The previous owner told me they used to come eat from his fruit trees with the bears, so that will be a fun summer.

The concept of a city deer is something i have 0 experience with.

I’ve only ever seen deer … way out in the boonies, or near like a minor rural freeway.

I believe you, I can understand that if the deer just regularly lived significantly closer or just within fairly urbanized areas, they would acclimate… but where I’m from… they stick to the forests in the foothills of the Cascades, almost entirely.

I’m in a midsized city in the Midwest. Literally in the middle of it. There’s a herd of deer that lives in a ravine and a golf course nearby. The city stopped relocating or disposing of them a while ago.

They’re at least smart enough to avoid cars for the most part but they will fuck up your gardens.
