I’m a pretty low skill user admittedly, I only just figured out how to set up Jellyfin on my media server. My situation is pretty simple for now, but if I end up needing a feature I don’t get, I’ll rethink my options.

Some people won’t be happy until the tyranny of extrinsic motivation is entirely banished. I wish them well, so I try to keep them motivated with little treats at semi-random intervals.

I should have acknowledged that in my highly rhetorical line of questioning, but are we going to pretend road tax covers the full cost of roads? It’d have to be much higher if it did, and it still wouldn’t cover the environmental cost of runoff and emissions, nor all the squandered space from parking minimums, etc.

These costs always get externalised to a large extent and we pretend we’re doing something normal because moneyed interests have made it the default option. But we’re not.

Why should driving on roads be free? It costs the government money to build and maintain them, and it ain’t cheap to bail out the auto industry whenever needed. And cleaning up the atmosphere isn’t gonna be cheap. Why are the costs of driving mitigated at every level of society instead of just fully funding public transit?

Kinda yeah. Like I said I’m happy it’ll exist, it’s just that I don’t like to spend money on upgrades for the sake of upgrades.

The idea did occur to me a minute after I’d commented. After my PS4 gives up, I’ll have choices to make.

I don’t think I need it, but I’m super glad it’s going to exist.

If it came with a native DVD reader and my PS4 suddenly died, I’d have some choices to make, however.

It’s true. People are good at saying “if you’re bored then you’re boring”, but nobody says “life gets more interesting the more you care about stuff”.

It’s not about you. It never is. People who treat others this way only do that because they’re not looking within and facing their own shit.
