A VPN? That routes the traffic to the other server, so the ISP can only see you’re connecting to a VPN. Most people recommend Mullvad, I personally use Proton and Windscribe, both free, open source, and trusted.

0·5 days agoI’ve never used it, but I’ve heard good things about Notesnook.
It’s because you skipped the transition process.
The free to free pipeline is real.

On the bright side, they got rid of one domain and three more popped up, just like Cerberus!

Privacy@lemmy.ml•How can I use social media anonymously?English
0·8 days agoNever had a problem on Lemmy or Mastodon with a VPN. If you create a Reddit account through a VPN, though, you will get shadowbanned. I made my Lemmy and Mastodon accounts with a VPN and had zero issues.

Ever since switching I’ve needed to hold myself back from mentioning it in every conversation. I thought it was a meme, but it’s real!

0·15 days agoLiterally how can they enforce this on Linux? It’s open-source, people just won’t choose those versions or edit that out of the code.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Should I subscribe to a data removal service (DeleteMe, Incogni, etc.)?English
0·15 days agoNo, I would never trust them. General rule of thumb: don’t trust Youtube advertisements. They seem very sketchy to me. Why would these companies and data brokers willingly delete your data by just asking? Not to mention that it would instantly resurface in a million other areas. The best thing to do is to instead not give out that information in general, or not make it obvious who you are.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•AI Can Now Easily Unmask Your Secret Online Life (Even If You Use a Fake Name)English
0·15 days agoThe article barely mentions this, and I haven’t seen comments here mentioning it, but a huge factor in determining identities is one’s writing style. In fact, analyzing the way people speak and write is its own science (linguistic forensics) and is also used by law enforcement (though can realistically be done by anyone with OSINT and basic understanding of individual linguistic patterns.) Dead giveaways are especially if you consistently misspell a certain word or use a certain emoticon or uncommon phrase or word, it’s like a linguistic footprint. If Andy123 on Reddit and XxwhateverxX both spell appearance as appearence and both say booyah and both spell :) as (:, then it is much easier to tell that they may be the same person. This is something that you must be aware of, as well as giving out personal information like country of origin, amount of pets, place of work, etc.

0·22 days agoHaving exit nodes for their VPN is not the same as collaborating with the government. There is no evidence that the Israeli government has access to any of their information, their servers are hosted in Switzerland.

WOO! This is proof that we actually have power! I am so relieved to see that democracy still exists here!
