Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•When you are unable to obtain a "free" copy of something, do y'all just give in and pay for the thing? Or just give up on having the thing altogether?

Uh so other people can discover your work which therefor, should be an inspiration for you as an artist, to keep going? Duh. Would you have rather it be lost to the sands of time and nobody to know you and what you done so you can be a nobody?
I mean in the past when torrenting was new and very white hot, some artists actually torrented their works and got discovered that way. It was a badge of honor.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•[META] What actually constitutes "mildly infuriating" content?
0·29 days agoThere’s even politically-related and news-related posts there too!
Some people just simply don’t care and refuse to actually read that they just contaminate instances with unrelated posts.

0·29 days agoI remember having made 3 reports of some news-related articles that got posted here on another account because they didn’t belong.
And guess what? Those reports were shot down and the posts remained. So some mod here seems to believe that it’s okay to try and turn this instance into yet another news-related outlet, not like we have several dozen of them already.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Microsoft has blocked Massgrave's KMS38 activation method for Windows
0·29 days agoThey can do that but I’m sure there are workarounds. I just briefly did a google search on ‘Windows activation workarounds’ and I already see some methods and people talking of them.
So again, Microsoft can fuck themselves.

0·29 days agoI end up sometimes giving up on having the thing. Because sometimes it’s an effect of just feeling personal greed.
But I will almost never give in and pay for the thing. Some things out there, aren’t worth the price and even if the price was right, it’s not worth the support.
Like Microsoft, I’ve not paid for a single Windows OS in my entire life. I’ve always gotten Windows second hand or buying machines off from people who happen to have the latest Windows on it.
Adobe, haven’t paid a single penny for their Photoshop program, kept pirating.
Part of pirating is just wheeling and patience. You will eventually, one day, get what you seek.

0·30 days agoYeah I know. I don’t get people’s irrational need to ruin something that’s going good. Christ, big run-a-mouths are the reason we’ve lost some good piracy sources and services.

0·30 days agoWe are currently in an active war over information and content.
So, I would say just do it. Do what you can. Do it for yourself, do it for a cause, whatever, as long as it isn’t corporate dictating what we can or can’t have.
Okay so you admit you’re not a lawyer but try being technical about something criminally-related while I have not stated that I was a lawyer and I based what I said off some research. Just so you can feel cute by adding a jab at the end of your little reply.
Yeah uh-huh, cute.
