You have a lot more negotiating power once they give you an offer because of the sunk cost.

0·4 days agoRespect! I too often take it for granted that it’s a privilege for my gaming rig and my homelab server to be separate boxes.
My server is Almalinux, my laptop is Mint, and my gaming rig is Nobara. But if I had to consolidate everything in to one machine, I’d pick Nobara.

0·5 days agoAny reason you chose Bazzite for your homelab distro? First I’ve heard of someone doing that!

0·5 days agoHonestly, I don’t know what happened, but it was unreachable via SSH and the web console. There shouldn’t have been a ton of files to tag since it was an Almalinux system that started with SELinux enabled, and all we added was a container app or two.
Oh neat, I hadn’t even thought of that! I think it’ll be a hard sell to switch him back, but I’ll keep this option in mind. I’m just hoping he grows out of it haha.
My brother has been interested in switching to Linux but he’s into those kind of games too. I’ll recommend him to try it out!

0·5 days agoI use podman-compose with system accounts and I don’t have a ton of issues. The biggest one is that I can’t seem to get bluetooth and pip working on Home Assistant at the same time. Most of the servers I manage have SELinux and it works fine as long as I use
:z/:Zwith bind mounts.A few years ago, I set up a VPS for my friend’s business; at the time, I didn’t know how to work with SELinux so I just turned it off. I tried to flip it back on, and it somehow bricked the system. We had to restore from a backup. Since then, I’ve been afraid to enable it on my flagship homelab server.

0·9 days agoFor me, it was definitely a hard thing I was supposed to work through. There are things that don’t work as well after transitioning to GrapheneOS, but more than anything it’s just helped me use my phone less (which was an ongoing goal of mine). I do most of my banking on my laptop now, which is probably better for my mental health than constantly checking my finances and stressing myself out. Outings are a lot more enjoyable now. I also switched from an unlimited data plan to a plan with 2GB a month, so I just leave my mobile data off unless I really need it.
I realized that I’m not going to win him over by being a jerk about it. Sometimes, all you can do is give people the space to come to the right conclusion themselves.
I built a computer for my uncle and his kids and installed Linux on it. My cousin wanted to play Fortnite, and I tried to pitch it to him as a feature instead of a bug. But a couple weekends ago, I caved and installed dang Windows 11 for him.

Yeah seems like it could be ragebait.
