They’re still only tangentially related to the game’s primary revenge narrative. Naoe and Yasuke have complete arcs in the base game. I don’t disagree that it’s a bullshit business tactic and that shadows is probably the worst ac in that regard, but it does have multiple endings more or less on par with Odyssey or Valhalla in terms of wrapping up loose threads. It’s assassin’s creed, they all leave dozens of loose threads.
Games were an order of magnitude smaller scale then. If you don’t like sprawling open world narratives with hundreds of hours of quality content and gameplay, don’t fuckin play em. Ubisoft and AC deserve shit for their hostile implementation of mtx and always online dumbfuckery. The games themselves are well made and well written. Have legitimate criticism instead of bullshit bandwagoning. The game was complete without the dlc. It was extra story, not main story. Eat my whole asshole. I already said that all games with planned post launch dlc pull this shit because they do, ac isn’t fuckin special or worse, arguably they’re better because the games are still quality in spite of the corporate fuckery.
There’s macguffins left and right. The dlc in shadows is mostly around one characters past relationship that was tangential but not directly relative to any of the narrative elements in the base game.
It’s also the same format all the modern AC games have had. And the endings in the base game are fine, open-ended but more or less complete. All the dlc did was bring more context to a side character that wasn’t really relevant to the main story.
In fairness so do most games that launch with planned dlc. And you do get endings for each character that wrap up most plot points in the base game. All the “new” assassin’s creed games have done this, you get two or three endings in the base game and the dlcs will wrap up a few remaining threads not covered in the base. Base game endings are left a little open because it’s an ongoing game series but they absolutely wrap up the main plot, it’s a bit misleading to say the ending is locked behind dlc when it’s really just one ancillary plot thread that gets explored and resolved.
