Eh, I’m a full album guy (Pink Floyd ftw) but I still enjoy Spotify. I’ve been introduced to a lot of good music I probably wouldn’t have found otherwise, and sometimes I’m just not in the mood to commit to a full album.

I don’t see capitalism raising people out of poverty as bad. It’s one of the greatest achievements of capitalism.
The way they implemented it is the problem, and clearly not everyone is happy about it as we see in Tiannemen square and, more recently, the way Chinese citizens developed a coded vocabulary to express their discontent.
I feel like a lot of people on Lemmy suffer from this issue: they see things as right-wing just because their POV is decidedly left. I know the basic left-right spectrum is too simple, but we do need to recognize politics is relative and that just because you are further one direction than someone else doesn’t invalidate the fact that by common standards they are on that sane side of the spectrum.
I see we’re not so different after all…
I love that movie ha ha
Thank you Tolstoy, great novel.
I’m so glad you people are too detached from reality to actually start your ‘revolution’.
Lmao those babies on hexbear are so fragile, of course they’ve come here to attack you.
And that one mod being like ‘no one mentioned Marxism’. Yeh, hexbear is famously right-wing 🙄🤣
I feel like I’m a late starter too, only now in my 30s do I have my shit together and have a good job. Definitely has helped mental health, I still am working out things but it’s better. So glad I finished university and got a good degree.
Yes, I don’t doubt that the totalitarian CCP took full advantage of the opportunity to grow their economy to what it is now. And they did that through state controlled capitalism and gross human rights violations.
I don’t doubt they are smart, but the methods they have used, ie being a single party authoritarian state, are barbaric. It was a mistake to help China succeed as we did.
I agree that there is an unhealthy attitude to capital growth. That definitely needs to change.
As for the 39% of Americans not investing, how many have pension funds or other retirement schemes that do the investing for them? Regardless, they are free to choose what they do with their money. If they want to hold it, so be it.
A period of deflation might make for a good break, but not as a permanent solution. Investment inspires innovation, and innovation in new technologies will be vital in combating climate change.
I can’t comment on the wars or Rome but I think there are multiple factors there, fiat maybe being one but of what significance?
I think dismissing an entire opposing view point as Nazis is one of the lowest forms of discourse there is, and unfortunately it’s very pervasive on Lemmy.
I don’t know if it’s naive teenagers or just a lot of out of touch people with fringe views, but it’s worse than reddit sometimes.
I think any hedge against inflation is countered by the extreme volatility most of them suffer from.
Which cryptos are non-deflating BTW?
Lmao yeh I wouldn’t be surprised if it had another run at the ATH high, backed by shady organizations lkke Binance and imaginary Tether dollars lol
Exploding heads looks fucking dead lol why bother?
It’s almost as if one of the ideas behind having an inflationary currency is that people don’t hoard it and invest in other things!
China is only doing so well on the back of declining manufacturing in the west. Nixon should never have normalized relations with them.
Shut up! BBY is going to restructure and get out of bankruptcy any day now!
They are just distributed ledgers with deflationary economic policies added. Not really impressive.
Why do you need mining or artificial scarcity at all? Yes, CPU mining is more ‘efficient’, but what is the point? And why are all (as far as I can tell) crypto currencies deflationary? It encourages hoarding rather than spending and investment which can be economically devestating. Maybe that doesn’t matter for black market usage, but there are many crypto supporters who see it as the future of actual currency.
BTW Monero is like the one crypto I find kinda interesting, due to the privacy aspects.
I agree with you, but I think both of us about to be downvoted by these cheapskates lol
