  • I’m an ABOA advanced optician, I’ve helped with lens designs, I’ve made my own line of frames, worked with every insurance company, and know the technical details of virtually every product on the market.

If it’s going to cost the same either way, do not get the online glasses. The 250 in store is discounted from probably 1200$, and the difference is immediately noticable.

The online glasses will not be measured to fit you properly, the focal point will be a best guess, which makes progressives have a ton of distortion, the frame won’t be adjusted and have no standards of material and shitty spring hinges, the transitions will be an old off brand composited lens that will delaminate after some time, the antireflective will be the cheapest, smudging crap possible, and the lenses will be thicker and heavier.

Go to a local optical, not any chain you’ve ever heard of. No corporate execs to pay means actual paid professionals helping you see better, as opposed to collision salesman trying to rip you off.

Online glasses are for single vision rx’s for children, not anybody who really needs glasses.

  • My industry is full of pseudoscience and liars. I can’t fault them for not knowing, and probably came off as more harsh than i intended.

I correct patients all day, and got pretty burned in the long long ago on reddit by people who “know better” patting themselves on the back and getting my factual information downvoted to oblivion.

  • Focusing close regularly doesn’t make you short sighted, not getting enough tourquoise light on your retina from staying inside makes your eye keep getting longer instead of stopping when the focal point is correct. Well, that and genetics.

And losing the ability to see near as you age has nothong to do with pressure. Your lens is constantly adding new layers to itself to stay clear, and after 40 it’s become so thick the muscles that pull it to accommodate near vision can’t stretch it enough. By 58 it doesn’t stretch at all any more. That’s why everyone eventually needs bifocals/progressives.

Don’t state things as fact if your not sure of them.

Source: ABOA, NCLE, OD, I own two optical practices.

  • I limited the background processes when I was customizing everything, so because of that apps take about 2 seconds longer to open, because they weren’t on standby. Fewer background things mean it starts up a lot faster though. The apps all work as they should.

The ADB commands I used just disable the default launcher, it’s still there if something goes wrong. If you switch over and something doesn’t work, you just send the same command with ‘enable’ replacing ‘disable’ and it’s back to normal.
