When you can get ticketed for speeding while your car is on the back of a tow truck:

Or a red light traffic ticket when your car was stolen:

And the police/courts won’t help you because it’s a problem from the private company running the cameras… I think we can see where some sort of AI backed camera network is headed.
A bandaid to fix this might be to setup an easy way for someone to dispute the charge. For every day that it takes the company to review the dispute, they would need to pay back the accused the same amount that they are charging them (with a minimum of paying them back twice the amount of the fine).
Even then, I’d rather cameras not be used in this way at all.
Must be a client issue, I’m using Voyager. Thanks for pointing that out!
I wish that spoilers actually blurred the image on Lemmy…
What do you mean by outdated? Most captchas are there to help them train their next ML model. Relevant xkcd:
Isn’t the whole point of something like End-to-End Encryption so that not even the company themselves can read your messages?
In that case it wouldn’t matter even if they did turn the info over.
Edit: I read more into the page you linked. Looks like those NSLs can’t even be used to request the contents either way:
Can the FBI obtain content—like e-mails or the content of phone calls—with an NSL?
Not legally. While each type of NSL allows the FBI to obtain a different type of information, that information is limited to records—such as “subscriber information and toll billing records information” from telephone companies.
Depends on the bank and what kind of notifications you want.
Some banks only allow certain types of notifications to occur through the app.
Notifications and Mobile Deposit are the 2 features from banking apps that I find compelling.
A fun Easter egg on Chromium browsers is that, when you get to 100 tabs, the number just turns into a smiley face.
Most of that just looks like carpet shading, where rubbing the carpet one way looks darker compared to rubbing it the other way. http://carpetswalltowall.com/shading-footprints-pooling/
However, the brown stain on the far right definitely stands out.

This is why I prefer it when people specify what kind of “AI” they’re talking about rather than just saying “AI” as a buzzword. I definitely agree with Derbauer here… this is painful.
Great video, he breaks everything down really well…
I might have to start linking to this video rather than trying explain what AI is vs what AI isn’t to those who like to make general statements like “AI is a scam!”.
What @delirious_owl@discuss.online seemed to be implying is that direct messages on Mastodon should be considered “public” rather than “private”.
I’m assuming that’s along the same lines of how Lemmy users generally think that their upvotes/downvotes are private when in reality, if you know how to look for them, you can see them.
Ah, I see. So it’s the same mistake that Lemmy users make when thinking that Upvotes/Downvotes aren’t public.
It sounds like DMs on Mastodon are public, but are commonly mistaken to be private then?
They’re called DMs not PMs
? Did you mean that the other way around? And if you did… forgive me, I don’t really use Mastodon. I was never much of a twitter fan. I don’t really like how all of my likes are public (although I guess I have had to get used to that with Lemmy).
Hmmm it was even able to pull in private DMs.
Maybe private DMs on Mastadon aren’t as private as everyone thinks… that, or the open nature of Activity Pub is leaking them somehow?
Edit - From the article:
Even more shocking is the revelation that somehow, even private DMs from Mastodon were mirrored on their public site and searchable. How this is even possible is beyond me, as DM’s are ostensibly only between two parties, and the message itself was sent from two hackers.town users.
From what @delirious_owl@discuss.online mentioned below, it sounds like this shouldn’t be very shocking at all.
SD? SD 3? The weights? All the above?
Stable Diffusion is an open source image generating machine learning model (similar to Midjourney).
Stable Diffusion 3 is the next major version of the model and, in a lot of ways, it looks better to work with than what we currently have. However, up until recently we were wondering if we would even get the model since Stability AI ran out of funding and they’re in the midst of being sold off.
The “weights” refer to the values that make up the neural network. Basically by releasing the weights they are essentially saying that they are making the model open-source so that the community can retrain/fine-tune the model as much as we want.
They made a wait list for those who are interested in getting notified once the model is released, and they turned it into a pun by calling it a “weights list”.
Correction: “Weight List” ;)
What petition? The article didn’t mention any, and I haven’t seen anything about a petition posted in here…
A quick Google search doesn’t reveal anything either.
Shunning modders simply for signing a petition seems like a major overreaction. Most people signing a petition don’t really read the contents. They usually just go for the quick explanation which was probably sold to them as something like, “sign this petition to ask Larian Studios to better support mods/Script Extender”.
I do feel that modders need to chill out and accept that major changes to the codebase are still happening and that will cause conflicts with mods. It’s great that Larian Studios has expressed their willingness to support mods in the future. I think that’s certainly enough for me.
