Linux user complaining about having to add repositories manually in order to get a piece of software to update or to add a tool they need.
Me as an any operating system user. Both have draw backs that aren’t for normal people.
NO PEACE. WE MUST FEED.

Fuck Oracle, we use them for our org and holy fuck, slow to respond, hire people that don’t know how to do their job or just don’t do it.
Waste of fucking money and air.
Didn’t it fuck up Linux in an Enterprise env as well though?
Ah yes, another prime example that demonstrates that Lemmy is no different than Reddit. Everyone thinks they are a professional online.
Nothing sensitive should ever lack encryption especially in the hands of a third party company managing your data claiming you are safe and your privacy is protected.
No one is invincible and it’s okay to criticize the apps we hold to high regards. If your are pissed people are shitting on Signal you should be pissed Signal gave people a reason to shit on them.
The website is trash can someone summarize?
So if I am seeing this I am good?
“(on Reddit (/comments/). yuck!)”
Guys, we fucking get it. You hate mainstream apps like reddit but the solutions aren’t on Lemmy until someone finds them elsewhere like reddit.
Do we really need to emphasize our hate for something every damn time we make a post. Thanks for the solution but why couldn’t you have just posted the solution.
God I hate Lemmy, they want a bigger user base to stay away from content controlled by big corps and to move to federated content but will shove their ideals on the community every time and that is what keeps pushing people wanting to stay here away. We don’t need to hear about FOSS and Linux every time. And we get it. We hate reddit that is why the user base moved here.
EDIT: God I love Lemmy.
It is Lemmy and users on here tend to think they know more because they don’t use something that someone else does.
I have been using Blokada 6 which is a subscription based VPN service. There is a decentralized service called Matrix that lets you run the Fediverse version of Discord called Element.
Element is where I heard of Mullvad and learned more about VPNs and how they work or how most of them operate.
Here is what you need to know if you want a standard VPN that just blocks ads and does the basics there are plenty out there, Blokada 6 being one of the best.
If you are truly concerned and care about your data being encrypted from point to point then there are very few of those. The benefit to Mullvad is it does just this and is tested by it’s users and they are based in Sweden. There is a classification of people o like to call paranoid but those same people genuinely love Mullvad, sooooo. I gave it a shot.
The company doesn’t believe in a subscription model. You pay as you want and go and can even pay for it by mail. Here is what I like. Mullvad offers a browser based on Tor that Tor trusts.
Mullvad will protect you using Open VPN or WireGaurd if you like data encryption on your network work. Not only that it will actively monitor and tell you if you have a DNS leak which is when your DNS isn’t being protected properly and can potentially be seen by your network providers and others. Not only this, it works, it isn’t slow, and it’s encrypted all the way around.
I will be switching to Mullvad permanently once my next Blokada payment comes out.
Terminal on Windows looks amazing.
Aren’t some of the more profitable and secure services created by those trained to break security?
An easy barrier of entry isn’t always the issue at hand. I think what the user is saying, hate Google or not, you are at the very least safe to some degree. A lot of people don’t realize that VPNS are just ways of manipulating where your data goes and who sees it and that VPNs can be abused as services even if they aren’t Google.
Those same services can sell your data just the same as Google. Let’s not forget that the “mega corp” everyone loves to hate is the reason you have Android competing against iOS which is part of another mega corp. People on Lemmy should get the fuck off their high horses.
The game I want to play isn’t available on Linux.
Care to explain your gripes?
At least with NVIDIA’s control panel I can find what I am looking for but my god AMD’s software feels so damn unorganized.
I mean not everyone’s thoughts deserve to be paid for…
I think AMD is a great competitor and we need more competition to lay it to NVIDIA and AMD as well, BUT HOLY FUCK. I can’t stand AMD’s software/control panel vs NVIDIA’s.
Dude it’s a fucking email but a phishing scam.
Do people really not have anything better to do then raise awareness about an email.
I am just trying to make sure I understand that the average Lemmy user doesn’t believe in unsubscribing and blocking an email and instead would rather just bitch about how they are getting emails from a source they could block just so they can talk about privacy and intrusive companies. However those same users who have the privacy experience and “knowledge” have the same issues from the sounds of it.
This is exactly my issue with Lemmy in all honesty.
Not knocking you but there is also a reason the “I use Arch memes” exist.
