  • I’ve tried a couple times mostly starting with conceptualization and writing systems and neither went anywhere just because I realized that it would be way more effort than I was willing to put in for it. For my own world building project I’ve just used other already existing conlangs for the languages of that world since it’s an entirely personal project and I have a couple dozen primary languages that need to be very distinct from each other.

Edit: I realized I didn’t really answer your question; Tbh I don’t really remember what the conlangs I tried making were even trying to do or much about them I just remember that I tried.

  • I’ve tried but it turns into a rabbit hole of linguistics so unless you’re already well versed on that or interested in getting into that field then it might not go anywhere. Speaking from experience lol. Personally I find it a lot easier and more fun to try and evolve the language I already speak rather than try to create an entirely new one from scratch. So things like new punctuation, grammar, slang, etc. favorite example of which being the linguistics of the cyberpunk universe.

Still go for it if you want I’m just saying it will take a lot of your time. And it’s more difficult if you don’t already have a worldbuilding project for it which is an even greater time expenditure since language is a product of its environment so if you want it to sound authentic you have to create that authenticity to derive it from.

Though please note that I’m speaking as a perfectionist and extremely ambitious person so I’m kinda speaking for myself and those with similar brains but if that’s not you then my points aren’t as relevant. This is just the only advise I can really give since you weren’t very specific about what you are actually interested in creating and the scope and scale of it because those parameters drastically change the amount of time and effort required.

    Possibly my nerdiest comment ever
