This is the only reason I’m playing a pirated copy. Fuck MSFT for releasing Sept 1st and then punishing any Game Pass users who didn’t want to shell out $35 additional for digital content that isn’t even released. I’ll transfer my saves once my Game Pass version unlocks.

This is such a brain dead take. You cannot compare an OS from one developer to a device from another unspecified manufacturer with no context. No one would claim that a Samsung phone is more private than an iPhone, regardless of the “potential” in the context of degoogling, or the niche privacy switch that’s present on less than 1/10,000 Android devices sold.

For me the advantage of an AirBnB is the ability to stay in a remote cabin in the middle of the mountains with a bonfire and a fenced yard for my dog.

I’m not sure why anyone stays in an AirBnB in the middle of a city (although I’ve found them to be cheaper and with better walkability in parts of Europe)

  • I know this is c/Privacy, but I use an iCloud Secure Video camera for the doorbell. Logitech Circle Doorbell, no sign in or video sent to Logitech, just processed by my Apple TV on network and uploaded securely to iCloud, where it’s stored E2EE.

I’m technically proficient enough that I should be doing something better, but when non-tech friends ask what home camera system is private, it’s really the only one I can recommend as “good enough.”

  • I’ll reiterate what @chaddy@feddit.de says. Sports streams are so finicky and the F1TV app is full of tons of content that doesn’t seem to make it to the high seas. I understand pirated streams for pay-per-view events, or sports (like soccer) that are dispersed across a million different broadcasters, but F1TV has so much content.

If you are in the USA, F1TV is a ridiculously good deal here, if it’s in your budget. If you are elsewhere, it’s worth VPNing for (that’s kinda pirate-y, right?) Especially if you split with friends, as I believe you can stream three screens simultaneously. And if you do find some streams, F1TV is $3/mo for full access to everything, including replays, just without the live race stream.

  • You know, when you look at where the subscribers were and what the default subs were, I guess this shouldn’t be surprising. There’s a reason Lemmy/Kbin already feel more like “old” Reddit, and it’s because that was always the “alt” social media users, generally a bit more tech savvy and certainly more open minded to new platforms. At some point Reddit filled up with Facebook and Instagram scrubs and I didn’t even notice.

I was definitely a power user of Reddit, but I’m not sure I was even subscribed to a single default sub. Whoever was hitting up Reddit for r/aww and r/funny was probably never going to take a principled stand over API debates and the centralization and profit chasing administrative choices.
