They don’t make money out of copyright and are a person not corporation.
In my private ethical code this is valid.
I want to utilise my old rasp pi and/or 10400f “old” matx pc with all parts. I need some kind of central home server for storage, jellyfin, seeding torrents and some other self hosted cool things but I am still figuring out where to physically put it even and what kind of case and too many decisions left me paralysed to be honest. As I also want it to look cool. Maybe I will just try to score some used server. In other words I want to do everything and so I don’t really have anything yet but some day it will kick in and I will do it in two days probably
If only I had disk space but between 500 GB Skyrim VR and 500 GB msfs and few other such things my measly 5tb space is crowded.
And the problem with these big modded games is that once you uninstall it it is very time consuming to reproduce same result. Modded Skyrim VR for example modlist was long ago abandoned for something much smaller because it was impossible to maintain by the author.
I need to buy some kind of oversized HDD and store such modded games maybe packing them with some kind of installer. It would be nice to rent cloud space for kind of custom steam for modded games.
I remember when 1tb was like a lot and nowadays I have like 20 of such disks around the house and still drowning in data, maybe because of around 15 tb of family photos and videos.
So with all that I feel like I have only 100gb for permanent seeding because that space goes first I guess. I am so drowning in data. Even have 4 old phones waiting perpetually for recovering data maybe it is gone already actually f knows. I think I need at some point to buy 50 tb drive for 1500 or so. Painful purchase but like I don’t see any other way
You can theoretically learn it all on your own. There’s no magic barrier that says you can’t. The ”only” problem is motivation and arranging a plan and materials. Is it better or feasible and realistic for just about anyone? Probably not.
Pretending otherwise is just odd. There’s no magic to it. It’s just your brain, material and exercise. It can be plain or it can be fun and hands on.
I don’t know why you suggested that you only can learn algorithms and complexity during formal education but not the hill to die on. It’s pretty simple concept after all.
Aside from again taking my words and twisting them to „formal education is useless and everyone is better off learning on their own” which I never said nor meant. You also suggested that I think some kind of random JavaScript tutorial is what I meant by alternative to formal education which again is your own liberal interpretation of my words and kind of insulting to be honest.
You are fighting the argument I never made and point I never meant which you are by all means free to do so but it is kind of pointless and a bit awkward. But if someone else ever makes it I guess it is just copy paste now for the future heated debates.
Also this is prime example that someone can be well educated but still a bit struggling with reading and text comprehension to the point it is hard or impossible to communicate effectively.
I could just be one special thing then because if I am honest my colleagues always seemed slow and I had to debug their stuff all the time. I didn’t want to make a pointless comment about my subjective singular experience though and hoped it would be more universal
You misunderstood me. All the can’s and some’s aren’t purposeless in a sentence you know. Besides uni gives you other things like friends and connections that are invaluable and motivates you for plethora of subjects you don’t want to learn.
All I said is that unis can feel super slow compared to on your own rate of learning assuming you could find motivation to learn it all on your own.
I once met someone from 3d art program that struggled to make a chess piece in blender. Something that took me what 3-4 days to learn from scratch?
Or also that you could be dropped into the middle of Germany with a dictionary in hand and learn more Deutsch in two months than in 5 years of formal education. (God that sounds like some ww2 operation stuff)
I guess the point is that you learn things you like super fast compared to the average assumption of pace by the course/degree makers and thank god because how else would League of Legends tournaments fit into the schedule?
The pace is relaxing and that’s absolutely fine by me and when you go to a job market you still have pretty big upper hand and use 1/50 of stuff you learned.
But sometimes, sometimes you feel like fuck maybe I should be doing something harder. And „Is that all?”. Cracking decompiled programs in assembly as a kid was harder and much more fun than your run of the mill backend dot net coding that just doesn’t hit dopamine receptors anymore.

It reminded me how much of a time waste formal education can feel. How come we can learn things on our own 10 times faster IF the motivation clicks in
It’s so weird tbh that at some unis they learn things in a year what you can get to know in a week if you don’t follow the slug pace plan and adhd hyperfocus kicks in
This community actually isn’t about piracy but about a video game called „Piracy” where you steal intellectual property
There are no pirates here officer
I don’t play Minecraft because it is too trippy alone.
I build this Moria kind of place and realize it’s scary to the point I am constantly glancing behind me in the tunnels.
I usually either play games 12 hours straight or not at all (adhd?). They all become slightly trippy but Minecraft is seriously eerie after such time and solitude becomes unbearable.
Let us substitute: ( - x, ) - y
Thus ()() becomes xyxy
())( becomes xyyx
Now clearly it can be seen, even while high, that the second one is and the first isn’t
One perceives that which they don’t understand as stupid but they have perfectly good reasons for status quo and none of them involve the benefit of the common folk
I have switched to movies. Sold gpu and built a home theatre.
I just can’t be fucked to sit on my butt and press the keys anymore. Not after being in the game in VR which is in hiatus. Flat games are just seriously the worst from both storytelling worlds.
This isn’t the reason I am posting it here
I have five browsers and couple vpns and some extras that I have mix matched to create sort of tier system depending on how legal is the activity I partake in.
Most illegal though you have to physically relocate to some unprotected hotspot by car
I once closed 9k tabs on the phone. I swear I felt a mild earthquake and power went off in the whole building. Eye of google appeared before me with hissy “I see you”
I remember my parents saying „hey don’t use it yet it has to warm up” and it really had to otherwise all sorts of unexplainable things would start to happen. Cold start of pc in the morning was really important ritual that no cc cleaners could shorten.
Also viruses that would modify browser to something funny. A president of my country with a serious stare appeared at one point in my browser stating that this pc is seized by the government.
It scared the shit out of young me with all the pirate CDs I had from street vendors. I don’t think even my windows was legit but a pirated one installed by PC parts business as an extra
To be honest I hate modern web and only Lemmy is feeling cool somewhat again. Everything else about digital landscape has become lame af. Without the struggle things lose any meaning
How would ISP ever knew what their clients do if they use proxy or vpn? I assume it was not the case here?
