“Literacy” down the line really hurts me.

I’m an elementary school teacher, and I just had a conversation with my principal today that really upset me. He has a vision of the future where AI is ubiquitous and video takes such precedence over the written word that everybody doesn’t need to learn how to read. He thinks he’s a futurist. I think that version of the future sounds like a nightmare.

I don’t see why AI won’t be ubiquitous in the future. Is the timeline of this future debatable? Yes.

Yeah, saying “everything doesn’t need to learn how to read” is really stupid.

‘Ai’? Yeah sure, when i can join starfleet and/or special circumstances.

Anyone who thinks we have artificial Intelligence is already an Artificial intelligence. A layer of feckless reaction surrounding a lump of pointless meat that may as well be cancer. Zero interiority, all social contagion. The sort of ‘person’ who has no thoughts they didnt first see expressed in a meme.

There is math about why it is not within reach, even for a sane society. We have organized our society around this fucking scam bullshit at the expense of literally everything else. It is a disease. A disease that will kill any possibility of the real thing, along with all of us.
