Hefner and his ilk are to the modern degenerates what the old German nobility was to the Nazis, both an evolution of and a contrast. Though I wouldn’t say Hefner was himself a direct cause to profligates like Epstein or Trump, he was just the last notable example of a more or less dead breed.
