I live in a communist block built in '89. The outer walls are 1m thick, while the inner walls are 50cm thick. I can’t hear my neighbours, even if they’re having a party. We even have a 7m long terrace. It’s a nice enough appartment, especially since the city made a lot of green areas with plenty of trees, playgrounds, schools, shops, etc. Granted, the later were post-communist additions, but it’s still a nice place to live. And yes, I’m aware of the state of most of these commieblocks, I’m just saying it’s also possible to have a nice “communist” apartments as well. We had to work abroad for 4 years to be able to pay for it, but we could do it without taking on a mortgage for 30 years. Would I rather live in a house with a garden than in a flat? Sure. Would I rather live in a house with a garden while paying a huge mortgage for 30 years? Absolutely not.
