Canada is like that. IIRC the maximum fine you can get for piracy is $5,000, meaning it’s pretty much not worth it for any company to come after you. If you live in Canada and use a VPN you’re pretty much golden, but I also know people here who don’t even bother. They get a letter once in a while from their ISP and they just ignore it and nothing ever happens. One of my friends called their ISP to complain and told them to stop sending letters, and they said sorry they have to but if you seed a little bit less then they won’t have to send them lol.

He didn’t state what country, and weather they care about piracy is kind of irrelevant. You have a right to chose who you trust. I know I for sure don’t trust my ISP

It’s pretty relevant, actually. It’s nice when you have choice. Not every ISP in my country is a big-name corporate shitbag (despite the best efforts and constant lobbying of said big-name corporate shitbags), and they are allowed equal-ish access to the last mile communication networks at (arbitrarily inflated) wholesale prices. It’s still worth the price, though. We even have some internet co-ops running their own fiber. And if they don’t care about piracy, and you trust them to stay that way, then what’s the trouble? Yes it is hard to gauge who to trust, but that’s the game we have to play.
