Diff authoring time measures the active work involved in creating, testing, and reviewing a specific code change. This gives Meta more precision than metrics averaged across an entire day.
meta is scum. take nothing from their “learning”.
Diff authoring > Software engineering
“What do you do for a living?”
“I’m a diff author.”
aren’t we all?
but seriously, it seems to be the entitled meta way of saying pull request and distance themselves from real world
They did it by making it an expectation, so they can pretend AI has improved their efficiency. Most managers and leaders at Meta communicated this as an explicit requirement to their reports. You need to be faster, you must output more diffs.
This is why the article doesn’t claim that road maps are being worked through any faster. We just outputted diffs faster yet more sloppily.
Article sweeps under the rug the fact that SEVs at Meta dramatically increased, and leadership accepted this as a price for efficiency claims.
