I’d actually be interested in hearing you elaborate on that. What’s going on in Myanmar specifically that’s different from previous conflicts?

The civil war has had all sorts of unique tactics used, because it’s an asymmetric war between multiple armed groups and the government. The military has had some success countering the nonstate actors with hit and run tactics utilizing knowledge of the terrain to counter the insurgencies. The military is also going scorched earth to suppress dissent. Arms are coming in from Russia to support the Junta.

Meanwhile, the insurgencies are supporting the populace and successfully fighting the military.

I guess that still just sounds like an insurgency to me? Sorry, I’m not arguing with you or doubting you, just clarifying that none of what you’ve said really conveys what’s new or unique about the situation.

I mean, you don’t owe me shit, if it’s too much to get into or whatever you’re free to just tell me to fuck off. I’m genuinely curious about what you’re seeing that’s different here, but it’s not not my place to make any demands of your time if you’re not looking to get into it.

I appreciate the reply either way.

I’m not a military expert and don’t know much about the situation either, tbh. But I’ve heard from people I trust online that served in the military (not Myanmar’s, fwiw) talking about how unique the tactics are and how the war is reshaping military tactics across the world
