This continues even when you learn different scripts. I know the Katakana on an English product is probably going to sound like an English word spoken in a Japanese accent, but I still feel compelled to sound out “aisu kuriimu” (or whatever the written word may be) whenever I see it.
It’s not as automatic as reading in English is, but the compulsion to focus on the written words still exists.
