I want minimum latency as I play competitive games and am very sensitive to it. Hyprland has hdr support which is a must for me and on paper should support vrr and tearing aswell. With VRR I had occasional issues but something like tearing was impossible to get working for some reason, kde plasma should do both well but I have gotten used to tiling window managers and don’t really want to give that up.
So id like to know about your setup if you have gotten something like tearing to work or other recommendations.

mangowm. it’s lighter than both Niri and Hyprland and does a better job at what those two are supposed to excel in. That being said I do suggest you clean up the config for mango because some of the keybinds will leave you scratching your head as you can literally use one mod key for everything. For whatever reason the Mango dev decided using THREE mod keys was the way to go.
I don’t plan on trying it (Wayland is fine with me) but what do you mean about the keyboard shortcuts?
so as an example say you want to switch workspaces. normally in pretty much ever DE or WM it’s going to be mod+1 or 2 or whatever right? if you have a window on workspace 1 and you want it moved to 2 you’d do mod+shift+2
with mango it’s ctrl+1, 2, 3 etc to switch workspaces THEN alt+1,2,3 to move windows to them. Or focusing windows is alt+h,j,k,l BUT switching windows suddenly introduces the super+shift key. focusing a different monitor is alt+shift BUT moving windows to another monitor is now super+shift. It introduces a lot of confusion trying to remember all the combinations.
naturally you can reconfigure all of this to a single mod key and it won’t conflict with anything else thus the reason why the dev introduced 3 different mod keys is head scratching. Also depending on what apps you use you pretty much have to reconfigure the keybinds because there could be conflicts.
That’s worse than I thought, thanks for the breakdown lol
Maybe the dev is an OSU player…
it’s a shame too because it’s a REALLY good WM. it’s very lightweight as it’s based off DWM. It can do what Hyprland and Niri do but at a fraction of the memory usage. It’s just the damn config is a mess.
ill look into it and i have no problem messing with configs as long as its worth it
