The 10 Rap Commandments was an homage to Biggies “10 Crack Commandments”. LMM put in tons of references to hiphop culture, literature, and pop-culture. I particularly like how he managed to work in “Screw your courage to the sticking place” as a reference to both Macbeth and the best song in his favorite Disney movie (Beauty and the Beast). (My opinion on being best song in B&B. Probably #2 for Disney Villain songs…Be Prepared has my #1 spot)
Man the dude is such an impressive lyricist. I can’t say I care much for his singing…he’s talented, don’t get me wrong, but far from the best singer in the original cast (which itself is a huge contest but probably Leslie Odom Jr (Burr), though Renee Goldsbury (Angelica Schuyler) or Philippa Soo (Elizabeth Schuyler/Hamilton) were both absolutely amazing too…“Burn” still gives me chills)…but writing is really his strength.
