          Only took a few seconds.

Too bad it’s nonsensical. Maybe a few more seconds would have resulted in more clarity. ;)

And I’ve never understood why it’s called the gateway to California. A gate implies an entrance/exit point. I’ve never entered or left California through or under or over that bridge. Seriously who does??

Its called the Golden Gate bridge, not because the bridge is the gate but, because it crosses over the waterway called the Golden Gate, the strait at the entrance of the San Francisco bay. Any ship traveling to or from any port in the bay must pass through the Golden gate to reach the ocean.

The vast majority of people before modern infrastructure like airplanes and highways.

The majority of people that came to San Francisco prior to the 1850s when the transcontinental railroad was finished. The bridge covers the entrance to the bay, so it is the “gate” for ships.

They probably don’t mean the bride itself. the “Golden Gate” part refers to the waterway underneath the brigde, which used to be a very important entry/exit point for boats back before the bridge was built.
