lol tf is with the critic slander in the comments? No theyre not all bitter art scool dropouts 😂 know a bunch personally, most are acadamics and experts in some sort of cultural and or medial analysis whther that be focused on institutions, society or pure aesthetics.

most by far, in my country at least, are basically art professors with a side hustle…

this circlejerking seems so strange to me. Even fantano is for the most part v reasomable. Hes been saying “this is my personal opinion, and its okay to disagreee” for like plus 10 years, pretending hes some sort of gatekeeping elitist is really getting silly at this point

I don’t like to view critics reviews about stuff I like. It just makes me sad if they say bad things about it and make it sound like they know what they are talking about.

Nothing against Fantano specifically, but art critic has to be one of the weirdest jobs. “I tell people my thoughts on stuff that other people have made.”

I’m not insightful enough to be a movie critic. Maybe I could be a food critic. ‘These muffins taste bad.’ Or an art critic. 'That painting is bad’

Honestly I’m just thrilled when someone respects an album as a cohesive experience rather than selecting a vibe and just listening to whatever a platform decides to stream to you.

Hah, ah Fantano. Y’know, he wasn’t incorrect when he said he’s one of the most influential music reviewers of our time. But there’s no way to say that without sounding completely full of himself lol

As an avid pavement listener, I’ve had this guy pop up as recommended for YEARS, and I’m so happy I’ve never clicked.

I don’t agree with all of his takes, but that’s what makes some of his reviews so interesting. I also appreciate his willingness to change his opinion on a band or musician.

To me its more about the algorithm. I want to listen to my music, not listen to someone talk to me about my music, and the algorithm CAN NOT tell the two apart. My critique should really be with YT.

I don’t remember him declaring that out of nowhere so much as acknowledging it when articles or other people refer to him as that.

Hes good starting point when you decide to follow new music releases. We just don’t need to take his opinion as unarguable truth

We just don’t need to take his opinion as unarguable truth

Taking any critic’s opinion as the truth is crazy. Do we really just not know what a review is? Sure they say whether they liked something or not, but the point is that they describe it well enough that you can make a more educated guess about whether you’ll like something or not regardless of what their score is. He does a decent job of that.
