Just to make sure I don’t accidentally be an asshole, when downloading stuff from Soulseek, is it customary to add the stuff you download to shared files? I’m relatively new to this so I’m unsure what the customary standards are.

Wow, this sounds insane to me. No wonder some people ban me for sharing only to buddy list. I share to buddy list but add anyone I download from as a buddy before downloading, mainly because I don’t have a seedbox/proxy box to run my slsk traffic thru (yet).
It doesn’t really matter how you frame it, you only let people access your files if you get something out of it first.
