this is the wire that supplies power to the ignition points (the stuff that makes the spark plug go sparky at the correct time) in this motorcycle engine. as you can see it has separated into two thanks to yours truly. this is not great. but fret not! we still can make this work.

pulling off the cover reveals that it is attached via a screw. the wire goes under the gasket so it’s a little tricky to see. to resolve the issue at hand, we could of course replace the cable entirely, but…

after stripping it (and the other wire) and putting a butt connector over, we are now getting somewhere. and with a few firm clasps of the crimping tool…

a connection has been made! now, putting the cover back on:

in a matter of mere minutes, we have once more a running engine :)
