Biology is really just chemistry after four billion years of bumping random shit together. All of this is just 4 rings with random H’s, O’s or OH’s placed around.
I love the naming sometimes. Add an OH group somewhere to 5a-Dihydroprogresterone? Now it’s called 5a-Pregnan-17a-ol-3,20-dione because we ran out of new names to give.
Wow thanks so much, that’s totally very useful and applicable for me to use myself and stuff (whatever this is)
Wiki pathways?
Biochemistry and the respective pathways are mindbendingly awesome and at the same time you really have to get into a special way of thinking while amassing loads of knowledge to get it.
During a seminar dealing with cell structures and mechanisms i held a short presentation (45min) regarding the golgi apparatus and the techniques it uses to create diverse modifications of biomolecules, and how it fits in with what is seen on the cell surface itself. Researching this thematic complex really changed my understanding of how all that stuff really works - just learning “basic” organic chemistry did not help in giving me a more intuitive understanding how all these myriads of steps really happen. If those two areas had been intertwined somehow, i wouldnt have had to take my OrgChem exam 3 times to pass (it was notoriously difficult at my uni with an average of 20% of students passing per attempt lol - although i was sooo close at the second attempt)
Yeah, organic chemistry is a fucker.
But it’s awesome too - seeing how all of this complexity was created out of chaos; how changes on a molecular basis are able to give a competitive advantage in macroscopic ways and driving evolution this way; it’s simply fascinating. I’m pretty sad i never got to work in the field, but at least i kept my enthusiasm about all of this wonderful, super complex simplicity.
yup is pretty interesting, my nnew awwtistic obession aaaaaaaaaaawawawaawawawawawawawawa aslkajdfljaf
Somewhat relevant:
theCrux - Deep dive videos on cellular mechanisms. Not exactly biochem stuff, but adjacent. More like where all those enzymes come from.
That’s a great autistic obsession kittygirl, you will never stop to be astounded, because we all are still learning new stuff every day and i don’t think that will stop in the next decades lol
nyaaaaa my mom have it(adrenal source), have a lot troubles with it, i think i might have too, awawawawawawawawawa
