It did often feel like Nintendo specifically went for weird and quirky hardware to hinder emulation. The Wii had motion controls, the Wii U existed, and well, with the Switch, I’m sure their first-party titles still make use of things you can specifically do with the JoyCons…
When i was playing phantom hourglass way back when, i had also been into emulation before that, and i kept thinking how much fun the touchscreen was to use and how i had no idea how it would ever be emulated.
I guess now that smartphones are widespread hopefully it is easier to emulate ds touchscreens

I feel like that’s just them trying to make their consoles stand out in the market rather than hinder emulation specifically
